Job summary

Davis-Standard in Brampton, Canada is seeking a Mechanical Assembler to join our manufacturing team. You will assemble, fit, and install complex converting equipment according to engineering drawings and specs, ensuring high quality and readiness for testing and commissioning.

You will read layouts, plan assembly sequences, use precision tools, and collaborate with engineering and production to meet schedules while following safety protocols on the shop floor.

Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or equivalent experience in mechanical assembly
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial machinery or custom equipment assembly (preferred)
  • Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings
  • Experience with precision tools (calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches)
  • Familiarity with pneumatics and mechanical systems (preferred)
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Good time management and ability to meet deadlines
  • Basic computer skills (ERP systems, digital drawings, work instructions)
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 30 lbs, standing, climbing, and working in a shop floor environment
  • Willingness to work overtime as required
  • Experience with converting or web handling equipment (slitters, rewinders, unwind systems) is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, build summaries, and assembly instructions
  • Perform layout and sequence planning for efficient assembly processes
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments
  • Assemble precision mechanical systems, including frames, rollers, shafts, bearings, gearboxes, and drive components with high accuracy and attention to detail
  • Apply proper torque specifications and mechanical assembly best practices
  • Ability to perform mechanical alignment and fit-up of components
  • Assemble and set up web handling components, including rollers, unwind/rewind systems, and tension-related mechanisms
  • Experience with hydraulic systems, including basic assembly, installation, and troubleshooting of hydraulic components such as cylinders, hoses, fittings, and valves (preferred)
  • Inspect parts and assemblies for defects, alignment, and conformance to specifications
  • Perform in-process and final inspections prior to machine commissioning
  • Identify and report design, machining, or documentation issues
  • Support prototype builds, testing, and troubleshooting with engineering teams
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet production timelines
  • Maintain a safe work environment and follow all safety protocols (LOTO, lifting devices, etc.)

Job description

The Mechanical Assembler is responsible for assembling, fitting, and installing complex converting equipment according to engineering drawings and specifications. This role ensures machines are built efficiently, meet quality standards, and are ready for testing and commissioning. The assembler plays a critical role in supporting production schedules, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams.
