Job summary

Redpath Canada Limited is seeking a qualified Mechanic for underground mining operations at Musselwhite. The role focuses on preventive maintenance and repairs of diesel, electrical, hydraulic, and air-operated equipment in a demanding remote camp environment.

Responsibilities include following safety procedures, diagnosing issues with hydraulic/electrical systems, reading schematics, mentoring apprentices, and ensuring equipment meets manufacturer specs.

Qualifications

• Journeyperson status or 5+ years in mining/construction as a mechanic.
• Basic literacy and ability to read blueprints.
• Underground mining experience preferred.
• Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical and diesel systems.

Responsibilities

• Must understand written and verbal instructions to perform duties safely and efficiently.
• Perform diagnostic testing to identify problems and determine solutions.
• Familiar with underground mobile equipment braking regulations and testing.
• Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts or systems.
• Test repaired equipment to ensure performance meets manufacturer specs.
• Comply with safety regulations and procedures.
• Identify unsafe conditions in underground headings; maintain high alertness.
• Train and mentor new employees and apprentices.

Project: Musselwhite

Rotation: 14 days on, 14 days off

Shift Length: 12 hours

Salary Range: $137,500 - $157,000/annum, range is variable and dependent on overtime worked and production bonus paid

Travel: Flight from airport closest to point of hire to Thunder Bay - Charted flight to site

Job Summary

The primary role of the Mechanic is to perform preventive maintenance and repairs to diesel, electrical, hydraulic and air operated equipment. This includes mobile equipment hoists, compressors, drills, small tools and miscellaneous equipment of a similar nature.

Responsibilities

• Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform assigned duties in a safe and efficient manner
• Perform diagnostic testing to identify problems and determine the solution to solve the problem
• Familiar with underground Mobile equipment Braking regulations//testing and adjusting such components
• Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems.
• Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturer specifications
• Comply with all Redpath and Owners safety regulations and procedures.
• Identify unsafe conditions in underground headings - high level of alertness required
• Train and mentor new employees and/or apprentices

• Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
• Following Redpath Canada Limited health and safety standards and systems, including the Five Point Safety System and the Cardinal Rules, and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions
• Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment required in the performance of the work.
• Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.
• Comply with the Act and Mining Regulations that apply to the work area

Qualifications

Education:

• Journeyperson and or 5 yrs as mechanic for mining, construction, or similar industry
• School Diploma or equivalent preferred
• Basic literacy (read, write, basic math and read blue print) required
• Ontario Hard Rock Underground Service Type Common Core or other provincial equivalent preferred

Work Experience:

• 3 years' experience in an underground mining environment (preferred)

Knowledge Required:

• Ability to multi task and work effectively
• Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
• Ability to read, and understand Hydraulic/Electrical Schematics
• Ability to use and understand Engine/Powertrain Diagnostic Software, both Handheld, and computer based
• Ability to use/understand parts and service manuals, able to make parts lists for repairs required and or use service manuals to assist in diagnostics, and proper repair procedures
• Ability to Service/Diagnose Diesel Engines of many types and makes
• Ability to Service/Diagnose All Powertrain/Brake Components of Many types and makes
• Familiar with underground Mobile equipment Braking regulations//testing and adjusting such components
• Ability to recognize and resolve problems as required
• Ability to adapt to a varying work environment often requiring the employee to develop new and innovative work methods
