District of Summerland seeks a qualified Heavy-Duty or Automotive Mechanic to maintain and repair a wide range of district vehicles and equipment, including fire department units, ice-resurfacers, dump trucks, and loaders. The ideal candidate will hold a BC or Inter-Provincial Red Seal Trades Certificate and a Class 3 Driver's Licence with Air Endorsement, with a minimum of 5 years' experience.

The District of Summerland has an exciting opportunity for a qualified Heavy-Duty or Automotive Mechanic. Mechanics are responsible for the maintenance and repair of a broad range of District vehicles and equipment including fire department vehicles, ice-resurfacers, dump trucks, loaders and a variety of other heavy to light duty and hybrid equipment. Mechanics must have a strong knowledge of vehicle and mechanical equipment maintenance, including hydraulic and electrical systems, as well as welding techniques and equipment. They will be able to read and work from diagrams and sketches, have basic computer skills, and demonstrate strong communication and teamwork. Knowledge of WorkSafeBC and District of Summerland health, safety and environmental policies and procedures is also required.
The successful candidate will be a team player with a minimum 5 years' experience. The applicant will possess a valid BC or Inter-Provincial Red Seal Trades Certificate in either Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician, Automotive Service Technician or Commercial Transport Mechanic as well as a Class 3 Driver's Licence with Air Endorsement.
This is a CUPE full-time position with a rate of pay of $44.49 per hour along with a competitive benefits package and pension. The position is based on a 40-hour work week and currently follows a fortnight schedule, with every second Friday off.
