Job summary

Sobeys is hiring a Meat Manager to coach department staff, manage budgets and inventory, and ensure premier customer service across the meat department. You will lead by example, drive engagement, and maintain adherence to health and safety standards while delivering strong store performance.

The role emphasizes leadership, financial accountability, and collaboration with store teams to optimize pricing, promotions and product presentation in a fast-paced retail environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 18 months of retail store experience, meat experience preferred.
• High School Diploma required.
• Full knowledge of total store and department operations.
• Experience reading and analyzing financial reports and developing budgets.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Above average communication skills (oral and written).
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coach department staff to drive engagement and customer loyalty.
• Manage department operation, budgets, labour costs, inventory, presentation and merchandising within policies.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and food safety regulations.
• Prepare and analyze financial targets, forecasts and variances; drive sales and margins.
• Support staff development, onboarding, and succession planning.
• Oversee store operations and communicate changes to team.
• Coordinate maintenance of department equipment and repairs and contribute to continuous improvement.
