Position: Math and Numeracy Instructor
Nature of the Assignment: The Math and Numeracy Instructors at the Robert Gillespie Academic Skills Centre focus on mathematics, problem-solving, critical thinking, and reasoning skills in the Mathematics and Sciences disciplines.
Assignment Description: The position will primarily involve one-on-one instruction and conducting drop-in appointments with undergraduate students. Instructors may also deliver group instruction such as informal discussion groups and formal workshops at UTM.
Estimate Number of Positions Available: 1-2
Hours of Work: 20 to 40 hours – subject to change
Schedule Information: Variable in-person and synchronous hours from Monday to Thursday from 10am – 4pm. Synchronous appointments will be conducted online using the WCONLINE platform. In-person appointments will be held at the UTM Campus. Paid training on synchronous and/or asynchronous writing instruction is mandatory for all Writing Instructors who have not received training in the past four months and will be held in the first two weeks of May.
Sessional Dates of Appointment: 1 May 2025 – 30 August 2025 (Summer semesters)
Compensation: $51.85/hour (Writing Instructor 1), $55.75/hour (Writing Instructor 2), $57.39/hour (Writing Instructor 2 – Priority)
Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualification: Familiarity with course content of MAT102H, MAT133Y, MAT132/4H, MAT135/6H, MAT223H, and MAT232H, and foundational statistics is preferred.
