GEI offers a unique opportunity to collaborate across multiple practices to deliver geotechnical design/engineering solutions for our clients.

The Canadian operation of GEI is expanding in Ontario, and we are looking for a Materials Testing & Inspection Technician to join our team, working on projects across Ontario. Positions are available in Barrie, Markham, or Guelph, Ontario, within our Materials Testing and Inspection Departments. This is a full-time role (40 hours/week).

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Perform compaction testing using a portable nuclear gauge for soils, granular materials, asphalt, etc.
  • Sample soil, granulars, and asphalt for laboratory testing.
  • Conduct concrete sampling, field testing, and casting of test cylinders.
  • Inspect earthworks subgrade, foundations, and reinforcing steel.
  • Perform geotechnical laboratory testing (e.g., water contents, hydrometers).
  • Conduct materials laboratory testing (e.g., proctors, granular sieves, concrete).
  • Maintain testing equipment and ensure calibration.
  • Prepare field inspection reports.
  • Communicate field results with contractors and supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • College diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of experience preferred.
  • Team-oriented, autonomous, organized.
  • Good physical condition.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to work out of town when needed.
  • Flexible with shifts and schedules, including weekends on short notice.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Adaptability to changing conditions and schedules.
  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisors.
