Job summary

Johnson Controls in Nisku, Alberta, is seeking an experienced Materials Supervisor to lead the DCS/Silent-Aire materials team. You will oversee inventory, picking, tool crib, handlers, and shipping/receiving, ensuring accurate ERP transactions and on-time production support.

You will manage scheduling, coaching, and performance, drive continuous improvement, and collaborate with engineering, purchasing and production to optimize materials and forecasts.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years in inventory, warehousing, and logistics.
  • Minimum 2 years in supervision/people management.
  • Lean manufacturing experience with heavy machinery.
  • Strong data analysis and SAP knowledge.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the materials team to fulfill production orders.
  • Manage material receiving, shipping, and ERP transactions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, purchasing and production to optimize materials.
  • Schedule shifts, coach staff, and monitor performance.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities using Lean principles.

This is a full-time position in Nisku , Alberta with weekend schedules.

What you will do
  • Supporting our Data Center Solutions (DCS)/Silent-Aire group, you will oversee a team of inventory, picking, tool crib, handlers, and shipping/receiving. You will be responsible for managing the team that fulfills production orders, receives and ships material, and transacts in the ERP system.
  • Lead a team of staff in the materials department to accomplish business objectives and collaborate with internal stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.
  • Utilize available data to proactively identify issues related to inventory, its accuracy, and the overall operation; utilizing problem‑solving tools and Lean Principles to improve decision‑making and elevate problems to the leadership team.
  • Manage employee scheduling, including shifts, breaks, and vacations, to ensure adequate staffing levels.
  • Monitor and review employee performance, providing coaching, feedback, and recognition.
  • Hire and train new employees, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their roles effectively.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, purchasing, and production departments to optimize material specifications, streamline processes, and resolve any issues related to material availability or quality.
  • Utilize inventory management software (SAP) and data analysis techniques to optimize inventory levels and forecast future requirements.
  • Execute on corporate objectives and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What we look for

Required:

  • Minimum of 6 years of inventory, warehousing, and logistics experience in a similar environment
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory and people management experience
  • Experience handling or leading in a Lean manufacturing environment where heavy machinery is used.
  • Strong knowledge of data analysis, inventory management software (SAP - preferred), and forecasting techniques
  • Possess an analytical mindset with a strong attention to detail, coupled with outstanding organizational and problem‑solving skills
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities
  • Ability to work outdoors & in inclement weather
  • Ability to work weekends & overtime if needed

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree or diploma in a related field
  • In-depth understanding and attention to detail regarding Bill of Materials (BOM) information, including the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues arising from incomplete or conflicting data
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with multiple departments, provide comprehensive explanations
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and track open items to completion
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in Manufacturing Operations, MRP/ERP systems, and Inventory Management, including implementing best practices
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and data analysis tools to manipulate and interpret complex data sets
HIRING SALARY RANGE

$79,000 - $112,000 CAD (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
