Job summary

IPEX is seeking a Material Handler in Scarborough, ON, to focus on handling of raw materials and finished goods in the blending department. The role reports to the Blending team supervisor and offers a learning path toward advancement.

Starting salary is $24.38/hour with a 12-hour rotating continental shift schedule. The successful candidate will move materials from railcars and storage silos, operate blending equipment, and help package finished products.

Qualifications

  • Must have good communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices in manufacturing.
  • Previous manufacturing experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Convey resin and pulverized compound from railcar, storage silos, or bins to ensure continuous supply of material to Blending.
  • Identify resins, additives, and master batches required to compound material.
  • Load additives when necessary.
  • Operate blending and other manufacturing equipment; use cranes if certified.
  • Record downtime or scrap as required; maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Prepare packaging components and build/pack pipe crates per specs.
  • Report spills to Shift Supervisor and assist with other tasks as assigned.

This position reports to the Blending team supervisor and serves as a training position towards opportunities for advancement and growth.Starting Salary : $24.38/hourLocation : 807 Pharmacy Avenue, Scarborough, ON, M1L 3K2 ( View on Google Maps! )Work Schedule : 12-hour rotating continental shifts (Days: 8am - 8pm, Nights: 8pm - 8am, 7 shifts bi-weekly)Principle AccountabilitiesConvey resin and pulverized compound from railcar, storage silos, or bins to ensure continuous supply of material to Blending.Identify the various additives, resins, and master batches required to compound material. Load additives when necessary in the required addresses.Operate all blending equipment, mixing equipment, mobile material handling equipment and only if certified, overhead cranes used for packaging finished product into crates or bundlesReport and if required, record in writing pertinent production information regarding downtime or scrap identification.Ensure good housekeeping practices to include ensuring all material storage areas, scrap storage areas and pipe storage areas of the assigned manufacturing operation are maintained in a clean and orderly manner.Assist in movement and setting up equipment into and/or out of manufacturing areasPrepare packaging components that are required on the assigned line(s). This includes rework, cutting and assembling wood blocks, cutting and storing strapping, and cutting packaging wrap.Building and packing pipe crates according to company specifications.Report any liquid and/or material spills immediately to the Shift Supervisor.Perform a variety of other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.RequirementsCompletion of High School education or practical equivalency.Previous work experience in a manufacturing environment.Effective written and verbal communication.Knowledge of Health and Safety practices.Working ConditionsIncumbent spends almost 100% of their time in the plant environment requiring varying degrees of moderate physical labour. Lifting, pulling, pushing heavy objects (20-50lbs), standing and walking cover the majority of the work. Personal safety is affected by exposure to heat, dust, noise levels and the use of equipment such as sharp blades and presses. Considerable amount of sensory attention is required. Limited control of work pace and unexpected workflow, bring considerable stresses to this position.
