Job summary

MDA Space in Canada is seeking a Laboratory Support Technician to assist the maintenance and calibration group with equipment in transit and purchases. The role involves administrative duties for the department and close collaboration with technicians and engineers.

Required are a high school diploma or higher, 1–3 years of related experience, strong office software skills, and fluency in French and English.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of related experience; strong customer service experience.
• Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
• Essential knowledge of French and English, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Be the primary point of contact with technicians/engineers for purchases or rentals of test equipment and supplies.
• Coordinate shipping of instruments for calibration with the instrumentation department.
• Distribute instruments or supplies needed for laboratory operations.
• Prepare purchase orders for instruments and supplies.
• Coordinate laboratory bench space with program teams.
• Participate in continuous improvement projects for the laboratory.
• Monitor and validate laboratory data and equipment.
• Maintain 5S system in the laboratory.
• Perform other related tasks.

Role:

Provides support to the maintenance/calibration group in the preparation and administration of equipment leased or in transit with service providers.

Performs administrative duties associated with the operation of the department.

Responsibilities/Work performed:

• Primary point of contact with technicians/engineers for all purchases and/or rentals of test equipment and/or supplies.
• Coordinates and arranges for instruments to be sent to the instrumentation department for calibration.
• Coordinates and distributes the instruments or supplies necessary for the laboratory’s operations.
• Packs the necessary supplies into kits for the laboratory.
• Prepares purchase orders for instruments and supplies.
• Coordinates laboratory bench space with the various programs.
• Actively participates in projects aimed at the continuous improvement of the laboratory.
• Monitors and validates laboratory data and equipment.
• Actively participates in maintaining the 5S system in the laboratory.
• Performs any other related tasks.
• High school diploma, secondary school vocational diploma or college diploma;
• 1 to 3 years of related experience. Good experience in customer service.
• Good knowledge of the Office suite;
• Essential knowledge of French and English, both written and spoken (Transmit with suppliers outside Quebec).

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the SECRET status level II, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
