Job summary

Bay Ferries Limited is seeking a Deputy Director of Safety and Security to lead the implementation and maintenance of the Safety Management System across vessels, terminals and facilities, ensuring regulatory compliance and a strong safety culture.

Reporting to the Director of Safety and Security, you will guide risk assessments, audits, incident investigations and security planning, while supporting training and emergency preparedness.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the ISM Code, SMS practices and marine safety/health requirements.
• Experience with operational audits, incident investigations, corrective actions, training or emergency preparedness in a marine or regulated environment.
• Ability to communicate clearly with vessel and shore personnel, analyze information, write reports and resolve complex issues.
• Sound judgment and ability to collaborate across operational and corporate teams.

Responsibilities

• Support and improve the SMS and safety culture across vessel and shore operations.
• Provide leadership to safety and security personnel, project teams, committees and stakeholders.
• Conduct risk assessments, hazard analyses and security assessments; track mitigation measures.
• Plan and conduct internal audits and support external audits/regulatory inspections; follow up on corrective actions.
• Support incident reporting and investigations; analyze trends and recommend improvements.
• Support vessel and facility security plans, drills, emergency preparedness and cybersecurity matters.
• Work with managers and committees to strengthen occupational health and safety practices, training and inspections.
• Monitor regulatory compliance obligations and communicate with regulators and classification societies.
• Prepare safety, security, audit and incident reports; support annual safety plans and budget inputs.
• Act for the Director on delegated matters.
