Job summary

Northumberland Ferries Limited seeks a Deputy Director of Safety and Security to lead the company's SMS, safety, and security programs across vessels and terminals. You will supervise audits, risk assessments and incident investigations, ensuring regulatory compliance and practical improvements for operations.

You will report to the Director of Safety and Security and guide safety personnel, coordinating with regulators and stakeholders to strengthen safety culture and resilience in Atlantic

Qualifications

• Knowledge of ISM Code, SMS practices and marine safety requirements.
• Experience with operational audits, incident investigations and corrective actions in a marine or regulated environment.
• Ability to communicate clearly with vessel and shore personnel and write reports.
• Relevant degree or marine competency and OH&S qualification or equivalent.
• Sound judgment and ability to collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Support and continuously improve SMS and safety culture across vessel and shore operations.
• Provide leadership to safety and security personnel and project teams.
• Conduct risk assessments, hazard analyses and security assessments; track mitigations.
• Plan and support internal and external audits and regulatory inspections; follow up actions.
• Support incident reporting, investigations and trend analysis for improvements.
• Assist with vessel and facility security plans, drills and cybersecurity matters.
• Coordinate with managers to strengthen health and safety practices and training.
• Monitor regulatory obligations and communicate with regulators and classification societies.
• Prepare safety, security and incident reports and support annual safety plans.
