Job summary

CMA CGM is seeking a Marine Operations Manager in Vancouver to lead terminal and marine activities across Western Canada, with cross‑functional support to other Canadian ports. You will drive efficient operations, monitor KPIs, and partner with the Commercial team to enable growth while maintaining high service standards.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Transportation/Logistics and at least five years in shipping, with a proven leadership track record and strong rail/logistics

  • Minimum 5 years in shipping with strong marine/terminal operations knowledge.

CMA CGM is recruiting for a Marine Operations Manager in our Vancouver office. Do you have experience in marine/ terminal opersations and thrive in a fast paced agile environment? Then we want to hear from you!

POSITION SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Oversee all marine and terminal operations for the ports of Vancouver and Prince Rupert, while providing cross‑functional support for Seattle, Halifax, Montreal, and St. John’s. Partner with the Commercial team to support Canada’s aggressive growth strategy. Drive efficient operations and audit OPEX performance to achieve targeted Agility savings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee the day‑to‑day management of terminal and marine operations across Western Canada.
  • Strive for exceptional customer service and positive promotion of CMA CGM brand identity in the industry
  • Manage cost‑effective marine operations by reviewing daily KPIs, identifying terminal‑related issues, and reporting key updates to Executive Management.
  • Maintain strong communication and collaborative working relationships with marine terminals, port authorities, pilots, tug operators, husbandry agents, and rail providers
  • Drive operational efficiency by meeting targeted production levels and supporting the OPEX savings plan.
  • Improve vessel on‑time performance by meeting proforma windows and ensuring sailings occur within allocated shift schedules to receive POV bonus incentive
  • Collaborate with CP and CN railroads, along with ILS management, to improve IPI dwell performance, lower terminal utilization and reduce demurrage costs
  • Represent CMA CGM by serving on the BCEMA board or participating in other industry organizations that support brand visibility and stakeholder engagement
  • Work closely with customers, vendors, internal department and overseas as partners in resolving issues and creating strong relationships
  • Other responsibilities as required
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Transportation/ Logistics
  • Experience:
  • 5 years in the shipping industry, with strong knowledge of Terminal and Marine operations
  • Effective leadership and team management capabilities
  • Solid commercial understanding and business awareness
  • Working knowledge of railroad operations and related logistics
  • Other:
    • Proficiency with Microsoft programs
    • Manage multiple priorities and make timely, informed decisions
    • Conduct frequent terminal visits to support operational oversight
    • Ability to interface professionally with vessel command
    • Willingness and ability to travel as required
    • Ability to participate in industry meetings, functions, and task forces
    • Lead staff and communicate daily on local operational matters
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to interpret audit results and explain budget variances
    • Ability to identify excessive costs, support expense reduction efforts, and report findings to the cost reduction team
