Job summary

Public Works in Nova Scotia is seeking a Provincial Mobile Service Mechanic based in Miller Lake. This year-round, full-time role performs preventive maintenance and repairs on ferries across the province, with travel as needed and on-call duties outside regular hours.

Candidates must have a High School diploma and a Provincial Certificate of Qualification in Truck and Transport, Heavy Equipment, or Automotive Trade, plus five years of diversified mechanical experience.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required.
• Provincial Certificate of Qualification in Truck/Transport, Heavy Equipment, or Automotive Trade required.
• Five years of diversified mechanical experience preferred.
• Valid NS driver’s license required.
• Certificates in Heavy Duty Equipment or Marine experience are assets.
• Knowledge of engine diagnostic technology and related tools is an asset.
• OHSA, First Aid and WHMIS training are assets.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs as per policy and Transport Canada guidelines.
• Minimize ferry downtime through efficient mechanical work.
• Work independently with minimal supervision and travel as required.
• Support staff with diagnosing and resolving equipment issues.
