Job summary

Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a Mobile Service Mechanic (Temporary Backfill) for Spry Bay. You will maintain and repair a range of fleet equipment, including tractors, loaders, graders, and trucks, ensuring systems operate safely and efficiently.

The role requires a Red Seal in Truck and Transport, five years of diversified mechanical experience, and a valid Class 5 license with a possible Air Brake endorsement. Training in MVI is part of probation, with on-call duties as needed.

Qualifications

• Some high school and an Inter-Provincial Red Seal Certificate of Qualification in Truck and Transport plus a minimum of five (5) years of diversified mechanical experience.
• Upon hire, applicants will be required to successfully complete Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVI) training as part of their probationary requirements.
• A valid Class 5 drivers’ license is a condition of employment, and an acceptable driver abstract must be submitted before employment begins. Air Brake endorsement is an asset.
• Knowledge and experience of computer-controlled engine diagnostic technology, electrical schematics, dealer purchased engine programs, online service manuals, and safety inspections are considered assets.
• Air Conditioning Certification and a Motor Vehicle Inspection license would also be considered assets.

Responsibilities

• Repair, rebuild and make adjustments to the fleet and determine reasoning for equipment malfunctions.
• Emphasize preventative maintenance to minimize breakdowns and improve reliability.
• Work with safe practices; PPE is provided and a clean workspace is maintained.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues and work independently with minimal supervision.
