Job description

Atlantic Electronics Ltd. has been Keeping You on the Water Since 1973, and we're looking for a Marine Electronics Service Technician to join our Lunenburg team.

This is a hands-on, fast-paced position for someone who enjoys technology, troubleshooting, working with their hands, and getting out in the field. Our technicians work aboard everything from commercial fishing vessels and recreational boats to larger commercial and government vessels, installing and servicing the electronics that keep them navigating, communicating, and operating safely.

This is not a Monday-to-Friday, always-home-at-4 kind of job. While our regular shop hours are 8:00 AM-4:00 PM, the marine industry doesn't always operate on a schedule. Overtime, after-hours service, travel, and occasional overnight stays are an important part of this position.

If you like variety, don't mind being on the road, and want a job that takes you beyond the shop, this could be a great fit.

Duties & Responsibilities

You'll install, service, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of marine electronics, including:

  • Radar systems
  • GPS and chartplotters
  • Echo sounders and fish finders
  • VHF and other communication equipment
  • Vessel computer systems
  • Marine networking and telecommunications equipment
  • Navigation and related electronic systems

You'll work in our Lunenburg shop, aboard vessels, at customer locations, shipyards, and ports throughout the region.

Skills & Qualifications

What We're Looking For

  • Technically minded and a strong problem solver
  • Reliable and willing to be flexible with their schedule
  • Comfortable working overtime and travelling regularly
  • Able to work independently and manage their time effectively
  • Comfortable working aboard vessels, in shipyards, and in varying weather and working conditions
  • Professional and confident dealing directly with customers
  • Interested in learning new technology and equipment
  • Able to work as part of a team across our different locations

Experience with marine electronics, electronics, electrical systems, telecommunications, networking, computers, or another technical trade is an asset.

No marine electronics experience? Don't count yourself out. If you have a strong technical background, enjoy troubleshooting, and are willing to learn, we'd still like to hear from you.

Working Conditions

Travel and overtime are a significant part of this position, and applicants must be comfortable with both.

Our customers operate throughout Atlantic Canada, and technicians may be required to travel throughout Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador depending on service requirements.

The position may include:

  • Regular overtime during busy periods
  • Early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekend work
  • Emergency and after-hours service calls
  • Participation in a rotating on-call schedule
  • Day trips throughout the region
  • Multi-day travel and overnight stays when required

Marine service can be unpredictable. When a vessel needs to get back on the water, our technicians need to be ready to respond.
