After 75 years, we continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible. Whether you’re an experienced professional or just starting out, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute, grow, and make a lasting impact on industries that power the world’s most dynamic markets.

Location: Surrey, BC

Reports To: Learning Program Manager

Position Summary

The Manufacturing Training Supervisor leads IEM’s day-to-day training operations across an assigned manufacturing facility, personally owning staffing, performance management, and development for a team of 6–10 Manufacturing Training Specialists, while contributing hands‑on to program design, delivery, and continuous improvement. This role is responsible for driving consistent, high‑quality training execution and maintaining the systems and logistics that keep training programs running seamlessly.

In addition to leading and coaching the team, this supervisor owns training coordination and scheduling operations: managing facility resources, communicating training schedules to production leadership, and ensuring the logistics infrastructure supports a well‑organized, audit‑ready training environment. The Manufacturing Training Supervisor escalates risks to training capacity or delivery timelines directly to the Learning Program Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Lead & Develop the Manufacturing Training Team

  • Directly supervise, coach, and develop a team of 6–10 Manufacturing Training Specialists — owning staffing decisions, attendance management, performance feedback, corrective action, and professional development planning.
  • Assign training responsibilities across the team based on program priorities, Specialist skill sets, and production schedules.
  • Conduct regular one‑on‑ones, team meetings, and observations in the classroom and on the training line to ensure consistent delivery quality and address performance gaps.
  • Serve as an escalation point and subject matter resource for Manufacturing Training Specialists navigating complex content, learner challenges, or operational issues.

Training Coordination & Scheduling

  • Own end‑to‑end training scheduling across all programs, value streams, and site facilities — coordinating dates, times, cohorts, and instructor assignments to maximize throughput and minimize production disruption.
  • Book and manage training rooms, workstations, equipment, and materials needed to support each training event.
  • Communicate training schedules proactively to Production Managers and Supervisors to ensure employee availability and advance planning.
  • Monitor enrollment and attendance, follow up on no‑shows or scheduling conflicts, and arrange make‑up sessions as needed.
  • Maintain a master training calendar and provide regular schedule updates to operations leadership and the broader Talent Development team.
  • Escalate risks to training capacity, certification timelines, or delivery commitments to the Learning Program Manager.
  • Coordinate logistics for new hire onboarding training, cross‑training initiatives, recertification cycles, and any regulatory or compliance‑driven training events.

Deliver Training & Assess Competency

  • Personally facilitate instructor‑led and hands‑on training sessions in areas such as wiring, assembly, fabrication, inspection, and standardized work practices — especially for complex, high‑stakes, or new content.
  • Administer structured competency assessments and practical evaluations to verify employee readiness for task qualification and certification sign‑off.
  • Model best practices in adult learning delivery, maintaining a high standard for Specialist instruction through observation and coaching.

Program Development & Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with Production, Engineering, Quality, and EHS leadership to conduct training needs analyses, identify skill gaps, and align training priorities with current operational goals.
  • Oversee the design, development, and ongoing improvement of training materials including job aids, SOPs, assessments, and e‑learning content.
  • Apply training evaluation frameworks (e.g., Kirkpatrick Model) to measure program effectiveness and drive data‑informed improvements.
  • Leverage quality metrics, operational performance data, and learner feedback to continuously refine content, delivery methods, and outcomes.

LMS Administration & Records Management

  • Oversee LMS administration including program setup, session scheduling, learner enrollment, and transcript management, as well as competency evaluations, attendance records, and program documentation.
  • Ensure training records are complete, accurate, and audit‑ready in accordance with company, regulatory, and quality system requirements.
  • Generate and distribute regular reports on training completion rates, certification status, and workforce readiness to production and Talent Development leadership.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Champion a culture of safety and quality by consistently reinforcing EHS compliance, standardized work practices, and quality expectations through training and floor presence.
  • Ensure all training content remains current with evolving safety regulations, quality standards, and engineering requirements.
  • Partner with EHS and Quality teams to support compliance audits, corrective actions, and any training‑related findings.

Supervision of Personnel

This role is responsible for the direct supervision of 6–10 Manufacturing Training Specialists within the Talent Development function. Scope of supervision includes staffing, performance management, scheduling, development planning, and day‑to‑day work direction.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s level degree or equivalent in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, Education, Organizational Development, or a related field — or equivalent combination of technical training and hands‑on manufacturing experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in training and facilitation.
  • Experience delivering instructor‑led and hands‑on technical training in a production setting.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple programs, schedules, and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to engage effectively with frontline employees, production supervisors, and senior leadership.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), including experience building and maintaining scheduling tools in Excel or Outlook.
Qualifications — Preferred
  • 2+ years of supervisory, lead, or team coordination experience in a training, operations, or manufacturing context.
  • Experience administering a Learning Management System (LMS) at a program or administrative level, including scheduling, enrollment, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of quality systems, inspection standards, and root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and standardized work instructions.
  • Experience coordinating training logistics across multiple shifts, departments, or production sites.
  • Background in instructional design or training program development using ADDIE or similar frameworks.
  • Adaptable and open to supporting additional duties and cross‑functional responsibilities as needed.
