Job summary

INNIO is seeking a detail-oriented Engine Rig & De-Rig Technician in Welland, Ontario. You will prepare engines and gensets for production validation testing and perform post-test de-rigging to ready components for the painting stage.

You will log work in MES, verify components, operate lifting gear, and maintain strict safety and quality standards. The role supports continuous improvement and teamwork across the test area.

Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or equivalent in mechanical or manufacturing engineering.
  • Experience with engine assembly, testing, or related processes preferred.
  • Familiarity with MES systems and quality documentation.
  • Ability to operate lifting equipment and follow safety protocols.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Select and verify test saddles, engine support blocks, and drive line modules.
  • Move engines into position using gantry lifts, cranes, and transporters.
  • Log engines/gensets into the MES system and initiate rig process test orders.
  • Transfer engines from assembly stands to test saddles.
  • Perform crankshaft web deflection checks and record results.
  • Install data acquisition sensors and harnesses; prepare engines for movement.

Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-focused Engine Rig & De-Rig Technician to prepare engines and gensets for production validation testing and to complete post-test de-rigging and preparation for the paint process. This role is responsible for executing both the rig and de-rig processes, ensuring engines are properly set up for test cell operations and efficiently transitioned to the next production stage. The quality of work directly impacts test outcomes, product quality, and overall operational efficiency. This role will report to Test Area Team Lead.

The salary range for this position is $48,000 - $60,000, which will bedeterminedbased on the candidate's experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities
Rig Process
  • Select and verify test saddles, engine support blocks, and drive line modules.
  • Move engines into position using gantry lifts, cranes, and transporters.
  • Log engines/gensets into the MES system and initiate rig process test orders.
  • Transfer engines from assembly stands to test saddles.
  • Perform crankshaft web deflection checks (for 275 models) and record results.
  • Fill engines with oil and conduct oil system leak tests.
  • Inspect rocker arm and camshaft oiling.
  • Install and torque driveline modules, exhaust adapters, sensors, and water/fuel system components.
  • Conduct leak tests on fuel, jacket water, and auxiliary water circuits.
  • Adjust regulators, wastegates, and carb screws to initial positions.
  • Install data acquisition sensors and harnesses.
  • Prepare engines for movement into test cells and close out rig operations in MES.
  • Strict compliance with safety and quality standards. Generating highly detailed non-conformance reports and updating internal safety policies.
De‑Rig Process
  • Move tested engines and test saddles to de‑rig stations.
  • Log engines into the de‑rig operation using Morphee and MES systems.
  • Perform visual camshaft checks, oil drain, and borescope inspections as required.
  • Add preservative oil and re‑install components per instructions.
  • Generating highly detailed non-conformance reports.
  • Remove “test only” components and install customer components, performing leak checks as required.
  • Remove and return hoses, adapters, sensors, and harnesses to proper locations.
  • Install shipping covers, plugs, and gaskets as per instructions.
  • Perform Earth Bond Resistance Test and record results.
  • Unbolt engines from test saddles and transfer to shipping skids/paint stands using proper lifting equipment.
  • Torque engines to shipping skids and prepare for paint booth staging.
  • Using lean principles when storing test components.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Technical diploma or equivalent experience in mechanical or manufacturing engineering.
  • Experience with engine assembly, testing, or related processes preferred.
  • Familiarity with MES systems and quality documentation.
  • Ability to operate lifting equipment and follow safety protocols.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with Waukesha engines or similar sub‑assemblies.
  • Be part of a team focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Mechanical aptitude, able to read electrical and mechanical drawings.
