Job summary

Tallman Technologies, a long-established Canadian manufacturer, seeks an experienced Operations Manager to lead day-to-day manufacturing operations and drive operational excellence across foundry, machining, welding, assembly, maintenance and shipping.

The role reports to the Vice President and emphasizes production planning, demand forecasting, and close collaboration with Applications and Sales to translate customer requirements into realistic production plans.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of manufacturing leadership experience.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Experience with production scheduling and workforce planning.
  • Experience working with customers directly.
  • Experience with ERP systems and manufacturing analytics is preferred.

  • Manage production scheduling, capacity planning, workforce allocation, and workflow optimization.
  • Develop and maintain rolling production and demand forecasts based on orders and forecasts.
  • Ensure customer orders are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Communicate with customers and sales agents regarding order status and delivery timing.
  • Coach and develop supervisors, lead hands, and production teams.
  • Oversee product quality, inventory control, and material planning.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity and cost.

Job description

Tallman Technologies is a long-established Canadian manufacturer specializing in engineered metal products and custom manufacturing solutions. As we continue to grow and modernize our operations, we are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join our leadership team.

Reporting directly to the Vice President, the Operations Manager will lead Tallman’s day-to-day manufacturing operations while driving operational excellence, process improvement, workforce development, and long-term growth. This customer-facing role is responsible for production planning and demand forecasting across existing and prospective business, maintaining close relationships with existing customers to support repeat orders, and working with the Applications and Sales teams to translate customer requirements and new opportunities into realistic production, labour, material, equipment, and capacity plans.

What You'll Do

  • Lead daily manufacturing operations across foundry, machining, welding, assembly, maintenance, and shipping.
  • Manage production scheduling, capacity planning, workforce allocation, and workflow optimization.
  • Develop and maintain rolling production and demand forecasts based on existing orders, anticipated repeat orders, customer forecasts, and prospective new business.
  • Ensure customer orders are completed safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget.
  • Communicate directly with customers and sales agents regarding order status, delivery timing, and shipment readiness.
  • Maintain close working relationships with existing customers through regular communication, operational support, and follow-up regarding product performance, upcoming requirements, and anticipated repeat orders.
  • Identify opportunities for repeat orders, replacement products, repairs, upgrades, or additional support and communicate these opportunities to the Applications and Sales teams.
  • Proactively identify and communicate potential production constraints or delivery delays.
  • Coach and develop supervisors, lead hands, and production teams.
  • Oversee product quality, operational corrective actions, inventory control, and material planning.
  • Establish scrap and rework reduction targets, investigate the causes of process losses, and implement corrective actions to improve yield and material utilization.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, cost, workflow, and efficiency.
  • Identify, evaluate, and lead manufacturing automation, equipment upgrades, digital production tools, and other technologies that improve safety, capacity, quality, repeatability, and labour efficiency.
  • Work with Engineering, Applications, and production personnel to improve product and process designs for manufacturability, quality, cost, repeatability, and production efficiency.
  • Monitor operational KPIs and implement data-driven decision-making.
  • Lead the modernization of operational systems, production reporting, and performance-management processes.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Finance, and ownership to ensure customer commitments and company objectives are achieved.
  • Support labour-relations activities and promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of manufacturing leadership experience.
  • Strong people leadership and team development skills.
  • Experience in production scheduling, workforce planning, and operational management.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, including experience working directly with customers.
  • Background in machining, fabrication, welding, foundry, or industrial manufacturing environments is preferred.
  • Experience working within a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Experience with ERP systems, production reporting, operational KPIs, or manufacturing analytics.
  • Experience evaluating or implementing manufacturing automation, equipment upgrades, or digital production tools is an asset.
  • Experience in the steel industry or a related industrial supplier environment is an asset.
  • A technical, engineering, manufacturing, or industrial-technology background is considered a strong advantage.
  • Hands‑on leadership style with the ability to work both strategically and operationally.
