Job description

Salary Range: $55,000.00 To $70,000.00 Annually

We are looking for a Manufacturing IT Specialist to help keep our shop floor systems running. In this role, you will be the day-to-day support contact for our SAP manufacturing and warehouse applications (MES and EWM) and for the SCADA and data collection systems that connect them to production equipment. You will work directly with production, warehouse, quality, and maintenance teams — troubleshooting issues, keeping data flowing between the plant floor and SAP, and helping roll out improvements.

This is a hands‑on learning role, not a senior architect position. We are looking for solid fundamentals, curiosity, and a willingness to be on the plant floor. If you have a relevant degree or a couple of years of manufacturing IT, help desk, controls, or ERP support experience, we will train you on the rest.

SAP MES / EWM Support

  • Provide first- and second-level support for SAP manufacturing execution and Extended Warehouse Management users, including production reporting, material movements, goods receipts, picking, packing, and shipping transactions.
  • Log, track, and resolve incidents and service requests; escalated complex issues to senior team members or external partners with clear documentation of what was tried.
  • Monitor interfaces and background jobs between SAP and shop floor systems; identify failed or stuck transactions and correct them or coordinate the fix.
  • Support master data accuracy for production and warehouse objects (materials, work centers, routings, storage bins, handling units) in coordination with business owners.
  • Assist with testing, validation, and cutover activities for SAP changes, transports, patches, and new plant rollouts.
  • Help train end users and write plain‑language work instructions, quick reference guides, and troubleshooting steps.

SCADA and Shop Floor Systems

  • Support daily operation of SCADA / HMI applications used to monitor and control production lines, including alarm review, tag and screen changes, and basic configuration.
  • Troubleshoot data collection issues between production equipment, PLCs, OPC servers, historians, and SAP — determining whether a problem is network, device, application, or data related.
  • Maintain and support shop floor hardware and peripherals: industrial PCs, thin clients, barcode scanners, label printers, RF devices, wireless access points, and scoreboards or andon displays.
  • Perform routine health checks, backups, patching, and license and certificate renewals on shop floor servers and workstations, following change control procedures.
  • Assist with OT network hygiene and cybersecurity basics such as account reviews, segmentation checks, antivirus and patch compliance, and documenting connected devices.

Projects and Continuous Improvement

  • Participate as a team member on projects such as new line installations, equipment integrations, label or scanning changes, and MES or EWM enhancements.
  • Gather requirements from plant users, document current and future state processes, and support configuration and testing.
  • Keep system documentation, diagrams, and asset inventories current.
  • Look for recurring issues and suggest permanent fixes or automation instead of repeat manual workarounds.
  • Support after‑hours changes and provide on‑call coverage on a rotating basis to protect production schedules.
To be a qualified candidate, you must have the following:
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Industrial Technology, Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering, Automation, or a related field; OR a minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience in place of a degree.
  • Exposure to at least one of the following, through coursework, internship, co‑op, or work experience: an ERP system (SAP preferred), a manufacturing execution or warehouse management system, or a SCADA / HMI / PLC environment.
  • Basic troubleshooting ability across Windows operating systems, networking fundamentals (IP addressing, DNS, switches, VLANs), and relational databases.
  • Comfortable reading data and writing basic queries (SQL) or scripts to investigate an issue.
  • Clear written and verbal communication; able to explain a technical issue to a production supervisor and a business issue to a developer.
  • Strong customer service mindset and the patience to support users during a live production shift.
  • Willingness to work on the plant floor and to be available for occasional off‑shift, weekend, or on‑call support.
Key to being successful in this role:

Not required — these are what would make an application stand out.

  • Hands‑on experience with SAP ME / MII / Digital Manufacturing, or SAP EWM or WM transactions and RF handheld processes.
  • Familiarity with a SCADA or industrial platform such as Ignition, AVEVA / Wonderware, FactoryTalk, WinCC, or Kepware, or with OPC UA data connectivity.
  • Exposure to PLC platforms (Siemens, Allen‑Bradley / Rockwell, Mitsubishi) at a read‑and‑understand level.
  • Understanding of barcode and label printing (Zebra, SATO, BarTender, ZPL) and of RF / handheld scanning workflows.
  • Experience in an automotive, Tier 1 supplier, or other high‑volume manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with ITIL‑style incident and change management, or with a ticketing system such as ServiceNow or Jira.
  • Scripting or reporting skills (Python, PowerShell, Power BI) and an interest in shop floor analytics.
  • Relevant certifications (CompTIA A+ / Network+, SAP associate‑level, or vendor automation training).
  • Additional language skills, particularly Mandarin, given our global engineering and IT teams.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Split time between an office setting and an active manufacturing and warehouse floor.
  • Required personal protective equipment (safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes) must be worn in designated areas; exposure to noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.
  • Frequent walking and standing throughout the facility; occasional lifting of equipment up to 25–50 lbs and use of ladders or lifts for device installations.
  • Ability to work occasional off‑shift hours, planned weekend maintenance windows, and rotating on‑call support.
