  • College diploma or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tool and Die Design, Materials Forming, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • At least three years of tooling, die, fixture, or related engineering experience in automotive manufacturing.
  • Experience with stamping dies, roll-forming tooling, welding fixtures, or automotive body-structure processes.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze tooling and forming issues such as cracking, wrinkling, springback, burrs, and dimensional deviations.
  • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance plans, inspection standards, and tooling history.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering to resolve issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Improve tooling structure, service life, changeover efficiency, material utilization, and process stability.
  • Coordinate with external tooling suppliers for design, manufacturing, delivery, and on-site support.
  • Prepare tooling drawings, acceptance standards, reports, and related engineering documents.
  • Provide guidance to tool and die technicians and production operators on safe use of tooling.

Job description

Our operations team is expanding and looking to add an Intermediate Molding Technologist. We are looking for a dynamic and driven candidate who is interested in joining a fast-growing global company in the automotive sector.
The Intermediate Molding Technologist – Metal Stamping is responsible for participating in the technical review, design approval, validation, acceptance, and launch of new dies, gauges, welding fixtures, and other production tooling. Provide technical support during tooling installation, tryout, commissioning, production launch, and ramp-up.

  • Analyze and resolve tooling and forming issues, including cracking, wrinkling, springback, scratching, burrs, dimensional deviations, and unstable fixture positioning.
  • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance plans, inspection standards, repair records, tooling history, and spare-parts lists.
  • Work closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to resolve production issues and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Improve tooling structure, service life, changeover efficiency, material utilization, production cycle time, and process stability.
  • Coordinate with external tooling suppliers and follow up on design, manufacturing, modification, delivery, and on-site support.
  • Evaluate product and process changes and complete the required tooling modifications, validation, and documentation updates.
  • Prepare and maintain tooling drawings, acceptance standards, work instructions, technical reports, and related engineering documents.
  • Provide technical guidance to tool and die technicians, maintenance personnel, and production operators on the safe and proper use of tooling.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety requirements and applicable occupational health and safety regulations in Ontario.
To be a qualified candidate, you must have the following:
  • College diploma or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tool and Die Design, Materials Forming, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • At least three years of tooling, die, fixture, or related engineering experience within the automotive manufacturing industry.
  • Working knowledge of stamping dies, roll-forming tooling, welding fixtures, or automotive body-structure manufacturing processes; experience with steel battery enclosures is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, GD&T requirements, tolerances, and dimensional inspection reports.
  • Experience in tool tryout, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repair, and engineering change processes.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, CATIA, NX, SolidWorks, or other relevant engineering software.
  • Familiarity with automotive quality tools, including APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, and 8D problem-solving.
  • Strong hands‑on problem‑solving, cross‑functional coordination, and supplier‑management skills.
  • Good English communication skills and the ability to understand and prepare technical documentation; Mandarin‑English bilingual skills are an asset.
  • Ability to support overtime during project launches and travel domestically or internationally when required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
Key to being successful in this role:
  • Experience working for an automotive Tier 1 supplier or a large manufacturing organization.
  • Experience with large stamping dies, 1,500 MPa high‑strength steel forming, or automotive body‑structure components.
  • Knowledge of robotic welding fixtures, checking fixtures, and automated production tooling.
  • Ontario Tool and Die Maker certification or an equivalent professional qualification.
