What is the opportunity?

This Managing Director, Western Canada Banking role is for a relationship management leader and business development professional with experience in the tech ecosystem. As Managing Director, you will lead the regional teams across British Columbia and the Prairies, our national Client Advisory and Advice Centre teams, supporting our clients, while building strategic client relationships to drive growth. This role requires stewarding RBCx in market, fostering strong relationships amongst the ecosystem, and providing insights and guidance to companies and internal bank partners.

What will you do?

  • Lead regional Growth teams and national Client Advisory and Advice Centre teams, championing sales and market management practices to deliver superior client experience

  • Lead the implementation of strategic initiatives and actively pursue market opportunities across British Columbia and the Prairies, ensuring RBCx grows its market share leadership position

  • Support, mentor and coach regional teams to understand the market, client approach and deliver on the strategic vision

  • Lead business development activities and collaborate with portfolio of strategic client relationships

  • Focus on bringing the best of RBCx and RBC to entrepreneurs and their employees in collaboration with our partners in Capital Markets, Private Banking, Wealth Management, and specialized teams in Business Financial Services (Global Trade, Global Banking etc)

  • Build and maintain industry relationships within British Columbia and the Prairies tech ecosystems, engaging key market COIs, particularly those who play a significant role in influencing client acquisition, retention, and cross-selling decisions.

  • Act as a thought leader and advocate for RBCx, representing RBCx as a brand ambassador by delivering keynote speeches, participating in industry panels, leading public discussions, and confidently addressing large audiences.

  • Develop relevant programming and insights for RBCx and RBC communities

  • Actively participate in the tech ecosystem to remain at the forefront of market trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory developments and provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., finance, business, economics, engineering)

  • 10-15 years of experience in tech banking

  • Financial analysis experience with knowledge of credit products

  • Business development experience and strong client relationship management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and lead change within a team environment

  • Effective communication and storytelling skills to interact across all levels of the organization and external sectors with impact and influence

  • Strategic, big picture thinker with the ability to identify opportunities and lead across departments to drive value for our clients and RBCx

  • Proven experience delivering impactful presentations to large and diverse audiences. Ability to engage with confidence on panels, in client forums, and during strategic discussions

Nice-to-have

  • 5+ years of work experience in a venture-backed technology company (in a senior leadership role), in a venture fund (focused primarily on technology investments), and/or as a strategic advisor to technology and innovation companies

  • 5+ years of operations experience within the banking industry

  • Experience in the coaching and development of high-performance teams

  • Bilingual in French / English
