CEE Centre for Young Black Professionals

Managing Director, Operations (2-Year Contract)

The CEE Centre for Young Black Professionals (CEE) exists to fight systemic inequities by building a strong, visible, and economically independent Black community in Canada. Reimagining workforce development through a culturally relevant, holistic, and healing-centred lens, CEE responds directly to the realities Black youth face. CEE advances the economic and social development of Black youth facing multiple barriers to employment by offering person-centred, culturally relevant programs in Careers, Education, and Empowerment.

CEE aims to achieve a society and economy in which Black youth attain financial prosperity and a high quality of life for themselves and their families. It is within this context that CEE invites nominations and applications for the role of Managing Director, Operations, a position that will have an indelible impact on the future of the organization by stewarding internal alignment, fostering organizational resilience, and scaling infrastructure to meet the needs of Black youth across the country.

The Managing Director, Operations is a pivotal leadership role offered as a two-year fixed-term contract, with the potential for renewal based on performance and organizational needs. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this position is entrusted with translating CEE’s strategic vision into operational reality—driving performance, ensuring internal cohesion, and building the foundational infrastructure required for long-term sustainability and scale. While the Executive Director concentrates on external advocacy, partnerships, and sectoral leadership, the Managing Director will serve as the strategic and operational anchor, ensuring that day-to-day functions and cross-organizational initiatives are fully aligned with CEE’s mission. This includes direct oversight of core enterprise functions such as Human Resources, Finance, IT, Operations, Programs, Compliance, and Administration, while also championing a culture rooted in trust, accountability, healing, and Black liberation.

The Managing Director, Operations will foster high-functioning teams, steward organizational health, and drive strategic execution across departments. They will collaborate closely with senior leaders to implement long-term goals, manage organizational risk, and embed performance measurement systems that inform decision-making and promote continuous improvement. As a key partner to the Board and a standing delegate for the Executive Director, this leader will help prepare strategic updates, lead governance reporting, and represent the organization with confidence and credibility.

Qualifications

Among the qualifications being sought in candidates, the incoming leader must have a deep and abiding commitment to advancing reconciliation, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in all its forms and must believe, intrinsically, in the importance of leading with curiosity and welcoming ideas that can later be synthesized and turned into possibility. While all candidates are encouraged to apply and, in so doing, share how they see themselves adding value to the CEE environment, the following credentials and/or experiences are seen as possible markers of the candidates most likely to realize success in the role:

  • A) at least 10 years of senior-level experience in operations, strategy, or executive management within mission-driven organizations
  • B) demonstrated experience overseeing enterprise functions including HR, budgeting, compliance, and organizational systems
  • C) a proven track record of navigating growth, complexity, and change with strategic clarity and operational steadiness
  • D) a personal commitment to Black communities, cultural responsiveness, and equity-centered leadership.
