Manulife Financial Corporation is recruiting for a Senior Reinsurance Accountant to lead analysis of reinsurance treaties and related accounting. You will prepare and assess results, present findings, and implement new treaty calculations across global operations.

You will manage special projects with Finance, IT, and Actuarial teams, supporting new accounting standards and strategic initiatives. Hybrid work in Toronto area with strong data controls.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in insurance or financial services.
  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
  • Ability to learn and apply a large amount of technical accounting material.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Excel and Power BI.
  • Self-starter with attention to detail and strong analytical/problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, comfortable with senior management.
  • Organized with an aptitude for automation and process improvements.
  • Commitment to understanding complex financial transactions and internal controls.
  • Team player with positive attitude and work ethic.

Responsabilités

  • Prepare and analyze reinsurance settlements and reporting for internal and external treaties, including complex global treaties (IFRS 17, NAIC, Tax, Bermuda STAT).
  • Compile and review reinsurance footnote disclosures and AFSS schedules.
  • Present reinsurance financial results to stakeholders quarterly.
  • Define and evaluate new reinsurance treaty accounting models and calculation methodologies.
  • Collaborate with Global IT, Actuarial, Finance, and Investments to manage changes due to new standards or agreements.
  • Mentor and share best practices with team members.

Description du poste

This position is part of the Global Reinsurance Accounting Center of Excellence (CoE), a team that is responsible for producing timely and accurate financial information relating to highly complex affiliate and external reinsurance treaties. In this role, you will lead the analysis of reinsurance treaties and legal entities, including the preparation and assessment of reinsurance results, presenting analytical findings, reviewing and implementing new reinsurance treaties, and ensuring consistent and accurate implementation of reinsurance calculations and accounting models across global operations. The successful candidate will also be expected to manage and own special projects related to the implementation of new accounting standards, operational initiatives, or treaty agreements. These projects will involve interacting and working directly with Global Finance, IT, and Actuarial teams.

Position Responsibilities
  • Prepare and analyze reinsurance settlements and reporting for internal and external reinsurance treaties, including complex global treaties covering multiple accounting bases (IFRS 17, NAIC, Tax and Bermuda STAT)
  • Compile and review reinsurance-related footnote disclosures and reinsurance-related Annual Financial Statement schedules
  • Present reinsurance financial results to stakeholders quarterly
  • Define and evaluate new reinsurance treaty accounting models and calculation methodologies
  • Collaborate with global IT, Actuarial, Finance, and Investments teams to manage changes in systems and processes due to new accounting standards, operational initiatives or new treaty agreements to ensure timeliness and integrity of financial data used for reinsurance reporting
  • Mentor and share best practices with other team members
Required Qualifications
  • 6+ years of experience in an insurance or financial services environment
  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • Ability to learn and apply a large amount of technical accounting material
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel and Power BI
  • Self-starter, capable of working independently, with attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage priorities in a demanding and deadline-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) and comfortable working with senior levels of management
  • Must be well-organized and innovative with an aptitude for automation/process improvements
  • Commitment to understanding complex financial transactions and maintaining strong internal controls is essential
  • Able to work as part of a team with a positive attitude and strong work ethic

Working Arrangement

Salary range is expected to be between

$92,900.00 CAD - $142,900.00 CAD

Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
