Reporting to the Director of Project Development, the Manager of Transportation and Open Spaces is responsible for strategy development and operational management of the division in alignment with the Corporate Strategy and Council priorities. This division develops infrastructure projects from long-term infrastructure plans to delivery-ready projects for Calgary's streets, sidewalks, pathways, parks, and recreation services.

As the Manager, you will inspire your team and foster a culture of excellence, creativity, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to gather input and align projects with service improvements and community needs. As a member of the management team, you will promote an inclusive leadership approach that emphasizes equity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. You should possess political acumen and experience in leading transformational change and innovation. Primary duties include:

  1. Providing guidance, leadership, and strategic oversight for the division's capital investments and service lines.
  2. Serving as the executive sponsor for transportation and open space studies and projects, including the development of plans and strategies, considering trends, risks, and impacts on stakeholders.
  3. Collaborating across the organization and with senior leadership to identify opportunities, challenges, and growth strategies, ensuring the division advances transportation and open space projects effectively.
  4. Recommending capital investments and projects; presenting specialized information to interested parties.
  5. Building partnerships with external organizations, including community groups, advocacy organizations, and industry partners, to leverage resources and support project initiatives.
  6. Leading a diverse team by fostering innovation, monitoring performance, and providing oversight.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Engineering with at least 10 years of relevant professional experience post-P. Eng. designation, with current licensure and practicing status from the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), or equivalent licensure by the start date.   • A degree in Planning, Architecture, or a related discipline, with at least 10 years of experience in engineering, urban design, or a related field.

Additional Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience leading large teams and managing infrastructure or planning projects.
  • A master's degree in a related technical or business field (MBA) is an asset.
  • Proven success in creating and executing strategic visions for complex, service-based organizations.
  • Public sector experience, especially in municipal government within large, multi-union environments, is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in team building, change management, influencing, achieving outcomes, and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues, clients, and officials.

Compensation: Salary commensurate with qualifications.

Non-Engineer: Level H $121,267 - 193,315 per annum

Engineer: Level H $131,575 - 209,747 per annum

Work Schedule: 5-day work week with one day off in a 3-week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35-hour work week.
