Reporting to the Director of Project Development, the Manager of Transportation and Open Spaces oversees strategy development and operational management of the division, aligning with the Corporate Strategy and Council priorities. The division handles infrastructure projects from planning to delivery for streets, sidewalks, pathways, parks, and recreation services.
As the Manager, you will inspire your team, promote a culture of excellence, creativity, and collaboration with stakeholders to align projects with community needs. You will foster an inclusive leadership style that emphasizes equity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. You should possess political acumen, experience in transformational change, and innovation leadership. Key duties include:
- Providing strategic oversight for capital investments within the division.
- Serving as the executive sponsor for transportation and open space projects, including planning and strategy development, considering trends and risks.
- Collaborating across the organization and with senior leadership to identify opportunities and challenges, ensuring the division advances transportation and open space initiatives.
- Recommending capital investments and presenting information to stakeholders.
- Building partnerships with community groups, industry organizations, and external parties.
- Leading a diverse team, fostering innovation, monitoring performance, and overseeing work.
Qualifications:
Engineer:
- A degree in Engineering with at least 10 years of relevant experience post-P. Eng. designation and current licensure as a Professional Engineer with APEGA, including practicing status, or licensure effective from the first day of work. More details.
Non-Engineer:
- A degree in Planning, Architecture, or a related discipline, with at least 10 years of experience in engineering, urban design, or related fields.
All Applicants:
- At least 8 years of experience leading large teams and managing infrastructure or planning projects.
- A master's degree in a related technical field or an MBA is an asset.
- Experience in strategic vision creation and execution in complex, service-based organizations is preferred.
- Municipal government experience in a large, multi-union environment is advantageous.
- Proven success in team building, change management, influencing, and maintaining strong relationships.
