Job Description

Manager, Thought Leadership is responsible for development of research-based thought leadership that deepens our understanding of the forces shaping long-term investing. Reporting to the Director, Insights Institute, this role will drive the editorial strategy for the Institute, collaborating with internal investment experts and external research partners to produce timely, impactful content. The Manager will shape narratives, curate insight pipelines, and ensure quality, clarity, and influence across all published work.

Team Description

CPP Investments Insights Institute is a thought leadership platform that generates actionable insights on key issues affecting investors. The Institute draws on CPP investments’ global expertise and partners with business leaders, academics, and think tanks to develop high-impact research. In addition, it uses its convening power to advance conversations that inform investing excellence at the Fund and beyond.

We are looking for a dynamic individual to help shape and scale the Institute’s voice, reach, and influence both internally and across global audiences.

Accountabilities

  • Lead the development and editing of white papers, research reports, op-eds, and commentaries that advance the Fund’s reputation for thought leadership.
  • Collaborate with investment professionals and external experts to shape compelling narratives from complex research or internal viewpoints.
  • Translate abstract ideas and sectoral trends into clear, actionable insights for institutional audiences.
  • Maintain a high editorial standard across all Institute content, ensuring consistency in tone, quality, and messaging.
  • Build and manage an editorial calendar for long- and medium-form publications aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Manage partnerships with think tanks, researchers, and content vendors; help scope joint research or co-authored work.
  • Support internal knowledge-sharing by curating and publishing cross-departmental insights for internal briefings and strategy discussions.
  • Consult on amplification strategies for key reports or essays, in partnership with Public Affairs & Communications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Public Policy, Economics, Journalism, Political Science, Finance, or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in research, editorial development, policy communications, or think tank-style analysis. Data visualization experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize technical material into compelling, executive-ready narratives.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and headline/tagline creation skills.
  • Strong understanding of institutional investing, global economic policy, or long-horizon capital trends.
  • Experience working with research institutions, editorial boards, financial services firms, or policy shops is a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with publishing workflows, long-form content strategy, and editorial planning cycles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and an understanding of how to visualize or support data storytelling.
