Salary Range: $86,217.00- $121,155 per year

The Senior Communications Advisor is accountable to develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive, high-quality communications plans, strategies, tactics, and products that effectively convey and promote Supply Ontario’s activities and initiatives, and to provide communications expertise and support to the start-up of Supply Ontario.

In this role, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and providing expertise on the development and execution of comprehensive communication plans, strategies, and tactics to support and advance Supply Ontario’s (SO) mandate and address all internal and external target audiences across all communications channels.
  • Providing communication expertise and support for major SO initiatives, liaising with staff and relevant contracted resources as appropriate, and ensuring plans and deliverables integrate with corporate strategies and align with timing.
  • Developing metrics to measure and assess the effectiveness of strategies and related tactics and provides evaluation reports and recommendations to improve performance.
  • Liaising with other programs and corporate areas to keep abreast of initiatives and identify opportunities for proactive communications.
  • Leading the development of tactics, content development and products to increase engagement with key stakeholders and critical audiences (governments, broader public sector entities, buyers and vendors, media, and the public), including objectives, messaging, style and delivery method.
  • Ensuring that SO’s strategic vision, mandate and priorities are considered and incorporated, as appropriate, in all communications materials and interactions.
  • Developing the approach and content for a broad range of communications products, including writing and editing internal and external materials (e.g., presentations, progress reports, newsletters, website and social media content, media releases, etc.).
  • Identifying communications opportunities and strategies to drive high-impact messaging that supports SO’s vision.
  • Recommending and developing communications policies, procedures and techniques based on agency compliance requirements, industry standards and communications best practices.
  • Providing strategic counsel and responses on media inquiries, issues management and crisis response, as necessary.
  • Remaining current on best practices, theory, and techniques for all types of communications to support effective, continuously improving communication practices.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with SO staff, counterparts in other agencies and ministries, media partners and external stakeholders to coordinate activities, provide briefings, distribute media releases, and respond to calls for information.

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following:

  • University degree or diploma in a Communications or Public Relations field, with a minimum of 5 years in a corporate or government communications environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of strategic communications principles, methods, practices, and techniques to develop communications plans and strategies.
  • Advanced knowledge of social media communications theories, tools, techniques, processes, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of the broader public sector and supply chain ecosystem in Ontario.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and legislation (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2009).
  • Ability to recommend strategies and establish standards for the development and evaluation of communications activities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a variety of team members, colleagues, and other staff in all capacities.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to write in a variety of styles and media, including business-to-business communications, collateral materials, articles, and other corporate communications. Ability to write in varied tones and formats, to reach diverse stakeholder audiences.
  • Proficient with various computer systems and software programs including MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, SharePoint), database management and website and social media content tools (e.g., WordPress, Mailchimp); knowledge of HTML is an asset.
  • Ability to apply strong analytical, planning, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Fluent in the core social media channels (Facebook, Twitter LinkedIn, and Instagram) and the ability to apply social media strategy.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing tasks, prioritize as necessary, and deliver high-quality products to a variety of stakeholders under tight deadlines.
  • In-depth research, writing and editing skills, including knowledge of how language impacts messaging and tone.

The selected candidate will be required to reside and work in Ontario and be legally eligible to work in Canada.

This job offers the opportunity to work from home as part of a hybrid work arrangement; at the time of posting, this position would require in-office presence 3 days per week, based on current operational requirements.
