Job summary

Intact Financial Corporation in Canada is seeking a Manager, Surety to lead our growing surety team, shape underwriting strategy and develop talent to deliver growth within our risk framework.

With 8–10 years of Contract Surety experience, you will mentor staff, manage broker relationships, and drive profitability across a portfolio, collaborating with Claims, Operations, Finance and Compliance.

Qualifications

• University and/or College Degree or any combination of equivalent education and experience.
• Minimum 8-10 years of relevant experience in Contract Surety.
• Previous 1-2 years supervisory experience would be ideal.
• Ability to provide strategic direction and share information across audiences.
• Ability to execute short- and long-term strategic priorities.
• Build relationships based on trust and collaboration to influence priorities.
• Strong soft skills: interpersonal, organizational, time-management, communication.
• High integrity, confidentiality and accountability.
• Able to navigate changes internally and in the market.
• Open to travel 10-15%.

Share plan & other savings: up to 12% of salary or even more (ask how you could earn guaranteed income for life). Salary range (but not limited to): 138,500 - 169,300. Annual bonus target, based on the base salary, with a potential payout of up to double the target (subject to personal and company performance): 15%. Our pension offerings provide flexibility and long-term security for our employees beyond their careers. Salary for the candidate will be determined taking into consideration a number of factors including: experience, skills, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, internal equity, etc. The salary range presented above is based on a 35-hour workweek and would represent a majority of different candidate profiles. We’re looking for a Manager, Surety, to join our growing team!

What you’ll do here

• Team leadership & development: Coach and develop underwriters through day-to-day guidance, file reviews, feedback, and formal training plans which result in them being motivated towards success. Collaborate with other team leaders to achieve goals and monitor progress against the department business plan and service standards. Lead regular team meetings to communicate priorities, operational updates, and gather feedback. Manage team performance by conducting performance reviews and career-developing discussions.
• Broker & market leadership: Own key broker relationships; maintain a regular rhythm of account planning, pipeline reviews, and performance updates. Strengthen broker portfolio performance and develop new opportunities. Lead negotiations on larger/complex accounts and provide escalation support to underwriters. Promote products and appetite through broker training, information sessions, and market-facing communication.
• Portfolio & profitability: Build and manage a profitable book of business aligned to product appetite and underwriting authority. Set and track portfolio performance targets and take action to improve results. Review/audit underwriting files and decisions to ensure adherence to guidelines, authority levels, and company standards. Authorize and support complex new business, renewals, endorsements, and exceptions within delegated authority.
• Operational excellence: Maintain service levels by monitoring workflow, setting priorities, and removing roadblocks to productivity. Collaborate cross-functionally (claims, operations, finance, product, compliance) to improve outcomes and customer/broker experience. Navigate internal and market change with clear communication and steady execution.

What you bring to the table
