The Office of the Deputy City Manager, Community Development and Social Services, seeks a strategic, politically astute, and solutions-oriented policy leader for the role of Manager, Strategic Initiatives. Reporting to the Director, Strategic Policy & Programs, this role offers an opportunity for a proactive and analytical professional to lead strategic projects and foster collaboration across divisions.

This position involves overseeing priority projects, managing the service area agenda, ensuring strategic alignment, and promoting city-wide collaboration. The Manager will coordinate initiatives, guide project teams, and support innovative program delivery.

Key Responsibilities include:

  1. Leading research and recommending strategic policy options on complex issues.
  2. Monitoring and advising on Council and Committee activities relevant to the service area.
  3. Managing and briefing on reports and strategic materials for City Council and senior leadership.
  4. Representing the service area at key meetings and on City-wide committees.
  5. Developing performance frameworks and leading interdivisional collaboration to implement Council directions.
  6. Providing strategic advice, issue management, and developing briefing materials for high-level audiences.

Qualifications include:

  • Post-secondary education in Public Policy, Administration, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience in a large public sector organization with knowledge of government processes.
  • Proven political acumen, leadership, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
