Job summary

Pratt & Whitney Canada seeks a Manager, Software Engineering to lead design system development for analytical tools across aerodynamics, structures, dynamics and performance in a Longueuil onsite facility.

You will drive projects from inception to completion, providing technical leadership in software engineering and architecture, while collaborating with DevOps and cloud specialists to modernize analytical software tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering or equivalent.
  • 8+ years’ experience in software development and DevOps.
  • Strong proficiency in the Python programming language and, ideally, in C, Fortran, or Rust.
  • In-depth knowledge with automated testing methodologies and tools such as pytest.
  • In-depth knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Practical knowledge of Agile project management and software development methodologies such as Scrum and SAFe.
  • Experience in data analysis and machine learning an asset.
  • Problem-solving skills

  • Focused, able to tackle and prioritize several tasks, risks and considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage design system development for analytical systems including aerodynamics, structures, dynamics and performance.
  • Develop solutions that provide state-of-the-art productivity for the engineering and enterprise community including the effective use of optimization technology and multi-physics analysis
  • Provide technical leadership in the areas of software engineering, design systems architecture and analytical methodology development.
  • Be responsible for driving projects from inception to completion.
  • Improve Engineering processes for increased productivity and overall quality deliverables.
  • Leverage DevOps, Github and Azure DevOps (ADO) expertise to develop or modernize analytical software tools.
  • Conduct multi-disciplinary design optimization projects (MDAO).
  • Provide user support and training on analytical software tools and HPC environments.
  • Participate in project planning & scoping activities requirements analyses, design and peer reviews.
  • Build cloud-based infrastructure-as-Code (IaaS) solutions on AWS.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Software Engineering in the Longueuil Facility, in an onsite role, you will:

  • Lead and manage design system development for analytical systems including aerodynamics, structures, dynamics and performance.

What will your day-to-day look like?

  • Improve Engineering processes for increased productivity and overall quality deliverables

On-site: Employees in on-site positions will primarily work at the facility. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as these employees are essential to the development of our products.
