Overview

The Independence Group helps ensure the firm and its personnel are in compliance with Professional, Regulatory, and KPMG Global (and local country) independence standards. This role focuses on liaising with Partners and Staff across all lines of service about standards and policies related to independence, including those established by the SEC, PCAOB, CPA Code, and IESBA Code.

What You Will Do
  1. Apply technical knowledge and expertise in Canadian, SEC, PCAOB, and IESBA auditor independence rules, supporting client engagement teams.
  2. Assist in managing the design and implementation of review and approval workflows for independence compliance.
  3. Evaluate the firm’s independence and relationships concerning existing and prospective audit clients.
  4. Consult with KPMG partners and teams across Canada on independence issues.
  5. Guide engagement teams in independence clearance procedures.
  6. Develop and update independence policies, processes, and tools to ensure compliance and best practices.
  7. Promote commitment to audit quality, risk management, and independence policies.
  8. Prepare technical alerts, guidance, training materials, and other deliverables for distribution.
  9. Supervise team members on independence requests and tasks.
  10. Manage projects and identify process improvements.
What You Bring To The Role
  • Minimum of five years of client service experience in independence, audit, or risk management within a professional services environment.
  • CPA or risk-related qualification.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and professional in responses.
  • Strong research, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Initiative and organizational skills.
  • Experience responding to complex inquiries, analyzing data, and documenting findings.
  • Excellent time management and ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Strong business writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Fluency in English, both written and oral.
Additional Information

The salary range for this position in BC is $73,000 to $109,500, with potential bonuses. Compensation depends on location, skills, and qualifications. KPMG offers a comprehensive Total Rewards program.
