Overview

The Independence Group helps ensure the firm and its personnel are in compliance with Professional, Regulatory, and KPMG Global (and local country) independence standards. This role focuses on liaising with Partners and Staff across all service lines regarding standards and policies related to independence, including those established by the SEC, PCAOB, CPA Code, and IESBA Code.

What You Will Do

  1. Apply technical knowledge and expertise in Canadian, SEC, PCAOB, and IESBA auditor independence rules, as well as KPMG policies, to support client engagement teams.
  2. Assist in managing the design and implementation of review and approval workflows for assessing service permissibility for audit clients.
  3. Use research, critical thinking, and analytical skills to evaluate the firm’s independence and relationships with respect to existing and prospective audit clients.
  4. Provide consultations to KPMG partners and teams across Canada on auditor independence issues.
  5. Guide client engagement teams in completing independence clearance procedures.
  6. Develop and update independence policies, processes, and tools to ensure compliance and best practices.
  7. Promote commitment to audit quality, risk management, and independence policies.
  8. Prepare technical alerts, guidance, training materials, and other deliverables for distribution.
  9. Supervise team members on independence requests and tasks.
  10. Manage projects and identify process improvements.

Employees may need to work beyond normal hours to meet business needs, with flexibility provided for personal matters.

What You Bring To The Role

  • Minimum five years of client service experience in independence, audit, or risk management, preferably in a professional services firm.
  • CPA or risk qualification.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, diligent, with prompt and professional response skills.
  • Strong research, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Initiative, organizational skills, and experience in complex inquiry response and data analysis.
  • Excellent time management and ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and high-quality deliverables.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and handle sensitive information.
  • Fluency in English, both written and oral.

The role supports Risk Management for KPMG nationally, requiring documentation and collaboration in English.

KPMG BC Region Pay Range: $73,000 to $109,500, with potential bonuses, based on location, skills, and qualifications.
