Seeing beyond numbers

At Laurentian Bank, we believe we can change banking for the better. Founded in Montreal in 1846, Laurentian Bank helps families, businesses and communities thrive. Today, we have over 2,800 employees working together as One Team, to provide a broad range of financial services and advice-based solutions for customers across Canada and the United States. We drive results by placing our customers first, making the better choice, acting courageously, and believing everyone belongs.

This role sits within Laurentian Bank.

The incumbent is responsible for planning and overseeing the execution of projects that are operational in nature (impacting processes and/or operational systems) or related to payments (specifically their operational component). He/She plays a strategic role by monitoring developments in the payments ecosystem within the Canadian banking industry and translating or anticipating the resulting operational impacts.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure alignment and coordination with all internal groups and stakeholders involved in payments (Treasury, Digital, IT) to support informed decision-making before initiating payment-related projects
  • Ensure compliance with payment regulations, including understanding new standards (e.g., ISO20022)
  • Monitor the Payments ecosystem by staying up to date on Payments Canada’s modernization roadmap to identify related operational impacts
  • Lead business operations projects (from analysis to deployment) and collaborate with the teams responsible for updating related procedures
  • Play a key role in shaping the future vision of core operational systems for major products (e.g., lending, deposits, transaction services)
  • Manage a team of analysts and advisors to successfully execute assigned projects

Qualifications

  • Strong autonomy and the ability to proactively identify areas for optimization and develop action plans independently (a true self-starter)
  • Curiosity and initiative to independently learn new industry regulations and translate them into business impacts
  • In-depth knowledge of the Bank’s systems and processes
  • Proven ability to lead the implementation of technology projects for business lines and to effectively navigate IT environments to align with business needs
  • Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to lead through influence beyond direct reports
  • Fluency in both French and English* (spoken and written)
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
  • Significant experience (6 to 8 years) in project management
  • Professional working proficiency in French and English languages required as position involves frequent written and oral communication on complex matters with internal and external parties in both languages
