PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As the Production Manager, you will lead a dynamic team of locomotive maintenance professionals daily, covering all aspects of planning, scheduling, and assigning work within a locomotive maintenance environment. You will ensure that all maintenance production activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company, industry, regulations, and policies.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  1. Support front-line Mechanical supervisors in planning and executing locomotive maintenance and repair activities, and hold supervisors and staff accountable to daily production targets.
  2. Ensure continuity of production shift over shift.
  3. Communicate and deliver key performance indicators. Analyze issues to find root causes, ensuring all direct reports understand business objectives and their roles.
  4. Validate job briefings, end-of-shift briefings, safety meetings, and activities to ensure adherence to safety rules, procedures, and policies through efficiency testing and safety tracking.
  5. Ensure appropriate stock/material levels and hold the store department accountable for protecting production plans for the next 72 hours.
  6. Audit maintenance activities and processes.
  7. Maintain communication and foster positive relationships with local union officials, ensuring collective agreements are understood and managed.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or mechanical/electrical trade certification, or equivalent university degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of railroad experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience leading front-line operations.
  • Experience in locomotive maintenance on GE and EMD locomotive types.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of SAP.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Knowledge of collective agreements and non-union policies.
  • Ability to work with diverse employees and adapt to changing environments.
  • Strong coaching skills.
