Purpose of the position:

Manage and lead a team of employees working on track construction projects. Provide leadership accountability for safety, service, and productivity. Railway experience is preferred; however, candidates with 5+ years of thermite and/or flash butt welding experience are ideal.

Position accountabilities:

1. Mentor an average of 12 direct reports to improve efficiency and accountability.
2. This position requires 100% travel (expenses covered by CPKC), on an 8 on, 6 off schedule.
3. Territory covers Chapleau to Dorian and ending in Windsor.
4. Review planned capital work, confirm material and execution requirements.
5. Ensure CPKC regulatory compliance for track projects.
6. Promote and implement CPKC policies, safety practices, and procedures among team members.
7. Participate in developing and implementing work processes and changes to achieve continuous improvement.

Position requirements:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Candidates with a solid construction and/or manufacturing management background will be considered in lieu of railway experience.
3. 5 years of progressive supervisory experience in track renewal/maintenance preferred.
4. Solid understanding of Red Book, SPCs, GEI.
5. Ability to lead project plans and schedules.
6. People leadership skills.
7. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

Medical Requirements:

Operating safely is core to CPKC. All new hires for safety-sensitive positions must complete a pre-employment medical including physical, vision, hearing, alcohol, and drug assessments. Pre-employment drug tests are also required, including for trainees before final qualification.

Background Investigation:

The successful candidate must pass criminal history, reference, education, and driver’s license checks.

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is a key way for management employees to learn the business. Certification or maintenance of current certification may be required.
