Job summary

Silgan Containers in Ottawa seeks a skilled setter/crew supervisor for our blow molding operation. You will lead the set-up department, ensure safe work practices, and coordinate with PDEs on new tooling and projects.

The role requires 3–5 years in blow molding, knowledge of Bekum/SIG/Sabmann equipment, and the ability to train staff and manage inventory. On-site with after-hours support as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; reading, writing and speaking English essential.
  • 3–5 years in a blow molding facility, preferably with shuttle equipment.
  • Good safety, attendance and job performance record.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and execute safe work practices throughout the Ottawa facility.
  • Manage the set-up department with timely and accurate setups.
  • Identify mold issues and coordinate with mold maker to optimize tooling/changes.
  • Collaborate with PDE to approve engineering on new tooling/mold.
  • Maintain listing of daily changes and report to plant manager monthly.
  • Supervise process technicians and setup personnel; coordinate with shift supervisors, operators, and QA.
  • Work with PDEs on new projects.
  • Manage mold, head, barrel, and screw inventory.
  • Maintain set-up documentation for all jobs.
  • Train new employees and operators.
  • Coordinate with customer service, scheduling, engineering, and manufacturing manager for upcoming jobs.
  • Evaluate non-standard jobs and bring them to standard.
  • Provide after-hours plant support as needed.

Job description

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

1-Responsible for promoting and executing safe work practices throughout the Ottawa facility.

2-Manage the set-up department, ensuring all set ups are completed timely and accurate.

3-Identify mold issues and correct them by communicating, recommending changes to mold maker to optimize process/changes on tooling size(s).

4-Work with plant PDE to approve engineering on new tooling /mold.

5-Maintain listing of daily changes and report to plant manager at month's end.

6-Manage process technicians and set-up personnel while working closely with shift supervisors, operators, and quality personnel to ensure the production floor is running smoothly and efficiently.

7-Work closely with PDE’S on new projects

8- Manage mold, head, barrel, and screw inventory.

9- Maintain set-up documentation for all jobs.

10- Training of new employees and operators

11-Work closely with customer service, scheduling, engineering, and manufacturing manager on upcoming jobs and ensuring all line components are here for the job.

12-Evaluate jobs that do not run to standard and work with appropriate personnel to bring them to standard.

13-Provide support to the plant during off hours as needed.

14-Monitor performance and attendance on direct reports and administer accordingly.

AUTHORITY LEVEL (if applicable)
EDUCATION

Required: High School Diploma or GED. Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Good safety, attendance, and job performance record. 3-5 years in a blow molding facility, preferably working with shuttle equipment:

  • Working knowledge of blow molding tooling and components.
  • Ability to demonstrate high amount of quality and quantity of work.
  • Knowledge of plant procedures and equipment use.
  • Extent, to which team member identifies and corrects errors, initiates work activities, assumes responsibility, and anticipates needs.
  • Extent, to which team member completes work assignments, meets schedules, and follows established policies and procedures.

Preferred
SKILLS

Required:

  • Excellent knowledge of Bekum, SIG or Sabmann blow molders.
  • Understanding blow molding methods and logic
  • Basic electrical knowledge
  • Proficient in hydraulic systems
  • Proficient in pneumatic systems
  • Ability to assess job tasks, and prioritize those tasks when conditions change.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to communicate and train effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office
  • Ability to troubleshoot blow molding processing issues and effectively resolve them.
  • Forklift License
Preferred
  • Ability to read, write and communicate fluently in English.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Qualified blow molding setup
Special Requirements
