As the Manager of New Business and Underwriting, you’ll lead a talented group of Team Leaders, Underwriters and Administration team members to service excellence, elevating service quality and operational efficiency. In this role, you’ll not only shape the success of the New Business & Underwriting teams but also play a crucial part in enhancing the advisor and client experience.

What will you do?

Provide strong leadership to underwriters in their service delivery and development, and expert guidance on large and complex cases including escalations

Using lean management concepts and methodology, develop and implement strategies and processes to improve efficiency, accuracy and client experience

Drive excellence in new business and underwriting operations by actively monitoring performance against service metrics

Empower team leaders and members with proactive guidance to swiftly resolve challenges and escalations

Leverage data-driven insights to optimize capacity planning and demand forecasting

Cultivate leadership talent through targeted, timely coaching and constructive feedback to enhance team competencies

Forge robust relationships with internal and external stakeholders through engaging interactions and impactful presentations

Expertly navigate and resolve complex situations by partnering closely with distribution channels and advisors

Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls and governance of common and consistent practices across Underwriting and Operations

Oversee the successful maintenance of SLF Corporate requirements (ie: internal/external audits, business continuity, fraud risk assessments)

Persuasive communicator with excellent negotiation skills, both written and verbal

Thrives in dynamic environments and adapts easily to change

Willingness to pursue underwriting education and/or a professional underwriting background

Capability to plan, execute and oversee multiple projects simultaneously

In-depth knowledge of Individual Insurance products, processes, and services

Minimum 5 years experience in Life, Critical Illness and Personal Health Insurance products (asset)

As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only as the position includes managing both French and English-speaking staff (Quebec and outside Quebec) and providing daily support to the team.

Some travel may be required as teams are located in Toronto, Waterloo and Montreal
