Job summary

AccessHR is partnering with Platform Calgary to recruit a permanent Manager, People & Culture. The role is a standalone P&C leader reporting to the CFO/CEO with dotted-line to the Executive team, overseeing employee lifecycle, payroll, policies, and HR systems in a hybrid Calgary setting.

The successful candidate will drive culture, DEIA initiatives, and HR excellence while partnering with leaders to deliver strategic People & Culture programs.

Qualifications

  • Degree or certificate in Human Resources and/ or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive HR/People & Culture experience.
  • Expertise in payroll processing and payroll legislation.
  • Experience using HRIS platforms and AI tools to improve HR processes.
  • Ability to deliver People & Culture programs and processes.
  • Excellent written and oral communication; ability to influence.
  • Patient, adaptable and values-based decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Shape and embed the Platform Way across People & Culture programs, experiences and processes.
  • Partner with leaders and employees to translate priorities into practical advice and actions.
  • Review and strengthen benefits, policies and compliance with employment standards.
  • Own full-cycle payroll and ensure accurate records and compliance.
  • Improve HRIS effectiveness and leverage technology to streamline processes.
  • Lead end-to-end employee lifecycle from recruitment to offboarding and support DEIA initiatives.
  • Manage a $200K budget with oversight of vendor, technology, legal and consultant spend.
  • Continuously identify issues and implement improvements in a fast-paced environment.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, with a dotted‑line relationship to the Chief Executive Officer and a seat with the Executive Leadership Team, the Manager, People & Culture, is the standalone People & Culture leader for Platform Calgary.

This role is both hands‑on and strategic. The successful candidate will own and oversee the full spectrum of HR operations and the team member lifecycle, including employee advisory, culture, recruitment, onboarding, learning & development, payroll & benefits, HR systems, policies, and offboarding.

This is an exciting opportunity for a People & Culture leader who is ready to make a meaningful impact. It offers the chance to partner closely with leaders and employees, champion the Platform Way, and shape the programs, systems, and practices that help create a high‑trust, high‑performance workplace.

In addition, you will help influence the employee experience and culture as the organization continues to innovate and evolve.

KEY DELIVERABLES
  • Shape Culture & Ways of Working: Champion and embed the Platform Way across People & Culture programs, practices, and the employee experience, helping sustain an inclusive, high‑trust culture.
  • Strategic People & Culture Partnership: Build trusted relationships with the Executive Leadership Team, managers, and employees, providing practical, business‑minded advice and proactively supporting organizational priorities.
  • Benefits, Policy & Compliance: Review and strengthen benefits and People & Culture programs, maintain and communicate policies, and ensure compliance with employment standards, human rights, WCB, and other statutory requirements.
  • Payroll Management: Own and improve full‑cycle payroll, including troubleshooting issues, maintaining employee records, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring legislative compliance.
  • HR Systems Improvement: Improve HRIS effectiveness and data integrity, using technology to streamline People & Culture processes and create more effective ways of working.
  • Employee Experience & Lifecycle: Lead end‑to‑end team member experience, from recruitment and onboarding through development, performance, and offboarding; advance culture, engagement, and DEIA initiatives that strengthen belonging and organizational effectiveness.
  • Budget & Fiscal Management: Manage a $200K budget, including vendor, technology, legal, consulting, professional development, and staff engagement expenditures, with regular reporting and sound fiscal oversight.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify issues and opportunities, solve problems, and keep People & Culture programs, systems, and projects moving forward in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Business Acumen: Demonstrated experience partnering with leaders and managers to provide practical People & Culture advice that supports business and organizational objectives.
  • Employee Lifecycle Experience: Hands‑on experience managing a broad range of People & Culture activities across the employee lifecycle in a standalone People & Culture role.
  • Payroll Knowledge: Experience managing full‑cycle payroll, with strong knowledge of payroll legislation, employment standards, and payroll systems.
  • Technology & HRIS: Tech‑savvy and eager to learn and use HRIS, AI‑enabled tools, and other workplace technologies.
  • People & Culture Program Delivery: Expertise with developing, implementing, and improving People & Culture programs, processes, and practices.
  • Exceptional Communicator: Encourages open dialogue; actively listens and asks, “tell me more” and “help me understand” questions; communicates clearly and checks in to ensure full comprehension.
  • Personal Attributes: Patient and understanding at all levels of an organization; embraces ambiguity and brings a mindset of referring back to organizational values to make decisions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Degree, diploma, certificate, or extensive experience in Human Resources
  • 5+ years’ progressive Human Resources / People & Culture experience
  • Expertise and experience managing and processing full‑cycle payroll
  • Experience or demonstrated aptitude using AI to enhance HR processes and productivity
  • Experience working with HRIS platforms
ASSETS
  • PCP or equivalent payroll certification
  • Experience in technology, innovation, economic development, or community‑focused environment
  • Expertise with conducting interviews and assessments with senior and executive‑level candidates
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with Humi
  • Experience using Google Workspace, Asana, Slack, and Notion
