Job summary

YMCA of Southern Interior BC is seeking a Manager of Community Programs to launch, lead, and grow innovative community-based programs across the South Okanagan region.

You will supervise about 15 staff, collaborate with partners, funders, and schools, and build systems that deliver high-quality experiences for participants and families.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree or diploma in related field; Master’s degree is an asset.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Community Programs, the Manager of Community Programs is responsible for launching, leading, and growing innovative community-based programs that strengthen belonging, accessibility, and prevention-focused supports.

This is an established leadership opportunity with opportunities for program growth. The successful candidate will oversee program development, team leadership, community partnerships, operational systems, and service delivery while ensuring high-quality experiences for participants and stakeholders.

The Manager will directly supervise approximately 15 staff members, while collaborating with community organizations, schools, funders, and YMCA partners to create meaningful and lasting community impact.

What You Will Do

• Launch and manage programs, staff teams, and operational systems from inception.
• Oversee program design, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
• Lead recruitment, hiring, supervision, coaching, and performance management for staff and contractors.
• Develop and manage program budgets, reporting requirements, and resource allocation.
• Serve as a representative of the initiative with external partners, and funders.
• Build meaningful relationships with Indigenous organizations, schools, service providers, and community groups.
• Act as a visible and trusted community ambassador.
• Collaborate with participants and partners to develop responsive and impactful programming.
• Foster an inclusive, positive, and supportive team culture.
• Support staff well-being, engagement, and professional development.
• Provide strategic leadership for prevention-focused initiatives, including youth employment, life skills and drop-out prevention programs, as well as family services and more.
• Coach and mentor staff toward excellence in service delivery.
• Maintain strong partnerships with schools, community agencies, and YMCA departments.
• Ensure compliance with organizational policies, funding agreements, legal requirements, and safety standards.
• Monitor outcomes, evaluate program success, and submit reports to funders.
• Support fundraising, community engagement, and philanthropic initiatives.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

What You Bring

• Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field such as Social Work, Counselling, Human Services, Community Development, Leadership, or a related discipline. A Master's degree is considered an asset.
• Experience launching, developing, delivering, or scaling programs, services, or community initiatives.
• Community-based, nonprofit, or social services leadership experience.
• Minimum of five years' experience working with multi-barriered populations.
• Progressive supervisory and management experience within community programming environments.
• Experience developing and delivering community-based programs in collaboration with partner agencies.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and partnership-building abilities.
• Experience managing budgets, reporting requirements, and operational planning.
• Strong business writing skills, including report writing and strategic planning.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
• Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and exercise professional judgment.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to adapt and thrive in environments characterized by growth, change, and ambiguity.
