The Position
The Mid-Level and CommunityFundraising Manager is responsible for managing a portfolio of mid-leveldonors, while providing leadership and oversight to Kids Cancer Care’scommunity fundraising initiatives and raffles. This role plays a key part in donormoves management and advancing the organization’s mission.
This position contributes to thestrategic and operational planning of the organization and supports thedevelopment of Kids Cancer Care’s highly motivated fundraising team. The Mid-Leveland Community Fundraising Manager must be both task- and project-driven, withthe ability to manage multiple roles and responsibilities, timelines, budgets,and projects. As a natural connector, this individual is comfortable withpublic engagement, driven to take initiative, skilled in mentorship, and ahighly effective problem solver.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The Mid-Level and CommunityFundraising Manager manages a portfolio of mid-level donors, and donoridentification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. TheManager currently has two direct reports.
Mid-Level Donation Program
- Managea comprehensive mid-level donation program (for gifts between $5,000 and$25,000), incorporating strategies to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit,steward, and grow donor contributions in collaboration with the Director ofPhilanthropy and Development Associate - Annual Giving.
- Utilizea variety of tactics and strategies to grow donor contributions from a mid-levelto major gift donors and create a seamless and rewarding donor experience,including email, personal notes, calls, in-person meetings, and other creativeengagement strategies.
- Developand implement strategies for acquiring, renewing, and upgrading donors,coordinating efforts with the annual giving program.
- Collaboratewith the Revenue Development and Marketing and Communications teams to ensureconsistency in communications.
- Ensureall donors and donor interactions are tracked accurately in Raiser’s Edge andthat individual gifts are acknowledged in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Developmetrics to assess and grow program impact.
Community Fundraising Leadership
- Overseethe development, planning, and growth of community fundraising events,including but not limited to Rock Your Locks and Can Dos for Kids.
- Solicitcommunity fundraisers over $100,000.
- Attendsome Can Do fundraising events and help steward and renew donors.
- Activelyidentify and cultivate major gift prospects.
- Developsponsorship packages for community fundraising campaigns, including Rock YourLocks and High Hopes Challenge, working with Marketing and Communications toensure brand alignment and visibility.
- Assistin preparing, monitoring and reporting on annual budgets (revenue andexpenditure) for community fundraising.
- Workwith the development team to integrate fundraising opportunities into KidsCancer Care’s strategic and program plans.
- Planand ensure the use of Raiser’s Edge to track relationships and engagement data.
- Ensurethe process of donor identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitationand stewardship enhances relationships with community fundraising partners.
- Provideaccurate and timely reporting on fundraising activities.
- Ensurefundraising activities comply with Kids Cancer Care policies, Canada RevenueAgency (CRA), Service Alberta, and Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC)regulations and guidelines.
Stewardship
- Managethe stewardship program to ensure all donors are thanked and stewarded, by themost appropriate person, after each gift is received.
- Updateand maintain Kids Cancer Care’s stewardship grid.
- Coordinateall donor stewardship initiatives, including new donors, annual, mid-level andmajor donors and sponsors, In Memoriam and In Honour giving.
- Coordinatekey donor stewardship and recognition events, including BBQ Fridays and KindleCare Days.
- Guideteam to fully utilize Raiser’s Edge for record accuracy and relationshiptracking.
Auctions and Raffles
- Overseeand guide all Kids Cancer Care auctions and raffles related to portfolio.
- Identifyand secure sponsorship and gift-in-kind opportunities for the MEGA 50/50raffle, ensuring alignment with Kids Cancer Care’s brand and fundraising goals.
- Beknowledgeable about AGLC rules and provide guidance to fundraising partners.
- Assistin building auction websites.
- Ensureall staff are well trained in AGLC raffle rules and CRA gift in kind rules.
Budgets and Reporting
- Managebudgets for all areas of responsibility, including compiling annual budgets forboth revenues and expenses.
- Ensurebudgets are based on annual planning and goals.
- Provideleadership to direct reports on the development of their budgets.
- Maintainand/or develop metrics to best report on areas of responsibility.
- Completequarterly reporting for Board reports.
Foundation Representation
- Enthusiasticallycommunicate the mission and vision of the Foundation through verbal and writtencommunication.
- Siton the Board’s Donor Relations and Fund Development Committee.
- Attendevents and engage with participants.
- Presentto community groups, schools and businesses.
- Workwith Kids Cancer Care staff and volunteers to ensure success of program areas.
General Duties as a member ofthe Revenue Development team
- Supportteam members to complete projects, working as a team first and foremost.
- Updatedonor information in Raiser’s Edge NXT in accordance with established standardsfor Raiser’s Edge NXT usage.
- Workclosely with staff and volunteers to establish a vision and methods to achieveand exceed the goals of each program.
- Createand meet timelines and ensure necessary resources are in place.
- Participatein the establishment of both long-term and short-term (annual) planning for theRevenue Development area.
- RepresentKids Cancer Care in the community by 1) being knowledgeable about the cause,and 2) developing and maintaining supportive relationships.
- Bringcreativity and enthusiasm to the workplace.
- Ensurethat Kids Cancer Care fundraising activities are of the highest standard byadhering to all charitable and ethical guidelines.
Education,Certifications and Proficiencies
- Aminimum of five years of demonstrated leadership and related experience infundraising within a social profit.
- Relevantknowledge and experience in donor stewardship and events.
- Relatedpost-secondary degree or diploma.
- Stronginterpersonal skills.
- Exceptionalproject management skills.
- Mature,flexible, well-organized individual who works well with staff and volunteers.
- Ambitiousand enjoys building relationships in the community.
- Strongoral and written communication skills, including an excellent telephone manner.
- Excellenttime management and planning abilities.
- Abilityto thrive in a team environment and be self-motivated.
- Strongcomputer skills and proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrateddatabase proficiency required, experience with Raiser’s Edge and Zeffy or otheron-line fundraising systems considered an asset.
- Experiencein email marketing platforms, such as MailChimp, considered an asset.
- ValidAlberta driver’s license.
- Policeand vulnerable sectors check (new or completed within the last three months).
- Abilityto lift 20 to 30 lbs.
- Occasionalevening and weekend work is required.
Industry Knowledge
- Knowledgeableand stays current with CRA, Service Alberta regulations and guidelinesregarding fundraising in Canada and specifically, Alberta.
- Currentwith AGLC legislation, regulation, and policy related to charitable groups.
- Ensurethat all Kids Cancer Care fund development activities, for both staff andvolunteer participants, are fully compliant with both the AFP Code of Ethicsand Standards of Practice and the Imagine Canada’s Code of Ethical Conduct.
- Staywell-informed of news, activities and trends in the social-profit sector.
