Position Overview

The Manager, Marine, Specialty Risk and Travel Insurance will be responsible for overseeing and expanding the brokerage’s portfolio in these specialized lines. This role will manage a team focused on delivering exceptional service to clients in these niche markets while developing and executing programs with insurers and marinas. Additionally, the manager will be tasked with growing the business, enhancing processes, and coaching the team to achieve operational and sales goals.

Position Overview

The Manager, Marine, Specialty Risk and Travel Insurance will be responsible for overseeing and expanding the brokerage’s portfolio in these specialized lines. This role will manage a team focused on delivering exceptional service to clients in these niche markets while developing and executing programs with insurers and marinas. Additionally, the manager will be tasked with growing the business, enhancing processes, and coaching the team to achieve operational and sales goals.

This role is critical to the continued growth and success of our brokerage in these specialized markets. The Manager of Marine, Specialty Risk, and Travel Insurance will be an integral part of our leadership team, driving innovation, client satisfaction, and business growth in these exciting and evolving sectors.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Coaching

  • Supervise, mentor and develop a team of professionals focused on marine, specialty risk, and travel insurance.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning and high performance within the team.
  • Provide coaching, performance evaluations and professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Monitor and ensure that team members meet or exceed client service standards and sales goals.

Program Development and Partnerships

  • Alongside the VP, Personal Insurance, collaborate with insurers and MGAs to develop and enhance tailored insurance programs for marine, specialty risk and travel sectors.
  • Build strong relationships with marinas, boating clubs, and travel-related organizations to understand their needs and develop customized coverage solutions.
  • Negotiate terms with insurers and service providers to ensure competitive pricing and superior coverage for clients.
  • Regularly review and optimize existing programs to ensure they are aligned with market trends and customer demands.

Business Development & Growth

  • Identify opportunities to grow the brokerage’s presence in the marine, specialty risk and travel insurance markets through networking, new business acquisition, and market analysis.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, insurers, marinas, travel agencies and industry associations.
  • Lead business development efforts by participating in industry events, conducting outreach, and collaborating on marketing initiatives to drive awareness and attract new clients.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase sales and market share in these specialized sectors.

Process Improvement & Efficiency

  • Oversee the implementation of streamlined processes and workflows within the marine, specialty risk and travel insurance lines to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve the customer experience, reduce turnaround times, and enhance overall service delivery.
  • Utilize data analytics and market insights to continuously evaluate the performance of insurance programs and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be added during the course of employment.

Client Relations & Service Excellence

  • Ensure exceptional client service by overseeing the end-to-end process from policy issuance to claims management, ensuring all client needs are met.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex client inquiries or issues, providing expert guidance and solutions.
  • Build long-term relationships with key clients in the marine, specialty, and travel sectors, offering ongoing support and identifying cross-sell or upsell opportunities.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure that all programs and processes comply with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Stay updated on changing laws, regulations, and market trends related to marine, specialty, and travel insurance and ensure the brokerage remains compliant.
  • Oversee risk management protocols, ensuring that policies and procedures are in place to mitigate potential risks for both clients and the business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Insurance, or a related field preferred.
  • Industry certifications (e.g., CIC, CISR, CRM) are a plus.
  • Knowledge of marine, specialty risk, and travel insurance products is strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in the insurance industry, with a strong focus on marine, specialty risk and/or travel insurance.
  • Proven track record of team leadership and business development.
  • Experience working with insurance carriers, marinas, or travel industry partners is highly desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance products, market trends, and risk management in marine, specialty and travel sectors.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage and inspire a team.
  • Strong business acumen with a focus on sales, client retention, and program development.
  • Exceptional negotiation and relationship-building abilities with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficient in using industry-specific software, CRM tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills with the ability to drive results and manage multiple priorities.
  • A proactive, solution-oriented approach to business development and client service.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of quality and professionalism.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
