Job summary

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience reviewing, drafting, negotiating, and managing contracts, agreements, and legal documents.
• Strong knowledge of legal compliance, contract management, and risk assessment.
• Experience in post-secondary education, public-sector organizations, procurement environments, or highly regulated sectors is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

Compliance & Risk Management

• Review, draft, negotiate, and manage a broad range of contracts, agreements, and terms and conditions to support Seneca's academic and administrative operations
• Ensure contractual activities align with legislative requirements, institutional policies, and recognized best practices
• Monitor and assess legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements that may impact the institution
• Identify potential legal and operational risks and recommend practical mitigation strategies
• Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of compliance-related policies, procedures, and governance practices
• Coordinate with external legal counsel when specialized legal advice or support is required

Stakeholder Education & Strategic Advisory

• Provide guidance, training, and advice to academic and administrative leaders on contractual, compliance, and risk-related matters
• Support decision-making by offering practical recommendations that balance legal requirements with operational objectives
• Collaborate closely with Procurement to support competitive procurement processes, contract negotiations, and supplier agreements
• Support complex procurement initiatives by reviewing contractual documents and advising on legal and commercial considerations
• Assist with the management of litigation matters, including coordinating documentation, supporting legal processes, and communicating updates to leadership
• Contribute to institutional initiatives, corporate training agreements, partnership arrangements, and other projects that advance Seneca's strategic objectives
• Build strong relationships across departments and serve as a trusted advisor on emerging legal, regulatory, and institutional issues

What You Bring to Seneca

• 5 year’s + experience reviewing, drafting, negotiating, and managing contracts, agreements, and legal documentation
• A university degree in Law, Business, Public Administration, Commerce, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A LLB, JD, LLM, or equivalent legal education is preferred
• Strong knowledge of legal compliance, contract management, risk assessment, or related areas
• Experience working within post-secondary education, public-sector organizations, procurement environments, or highly regulated sectors is considered a strong asset
• Knowledge of public procurement principles and related legislation is a strong asset
• Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse business functions
• Sound judgment, strong analytical skills, and the ability to balance legal, operational, and business considerations
