Job summary

Ontario Power Generation is seeking a Manager, Investment Operations to oversee daily operations for a large pension and funds portfolio. You will ensure accurate processing of transactions, reconciliations, and timely reporting across multiple asset classes.

The role requires deep expertise in investment operations, financial markets, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, with collaboration across portfolio managers, custodians, and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

• At least 8 years of experience in investment management with strong understanding of investment operations.
• Professional Designations (CPA, CFA) an asset.

• Advanced knowledge of financial reporting and disclosure requirements.

Job Overview

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Investment Operations and Compliance, the Manager, Investment Operations supports the day-to-day investment operations for OPG’s investment portfolios of over $53 billion AUM across the pension fund and nuclear segregated funds (together, “the Funds”) This role supports the Senior Manager in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of transactions, reconciliation, reporting, and compliance with overall fund level policies and legislation.

The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in investment operations, financial markets, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication and problem-solving skills, along with keen attention to detail, as the role involves close collaboration with portfolio managers, custodians, and other key stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities

• Oversee the day-to-day investment operations activities supporting public and private market portfolios, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of investment transactions, settlements, cash movements, and corporate actions.
• Oversee investment performance reporting, benchmark comparisons, and variance analysis across all asset classes.
• Monitor the accuracy and completeness of investment data across custodians and internal systems, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Provide oversight of financial reporting activities, including the review of the Funds' quarterly and annual financial statements, coordination of the annual financial statement audit, and liaison with the Corporate Reporting team to support reporting and disclosure requirements.
• Support the Senior Manager in the preparation and submission of regulatory filings and compliance reports, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures.
• Identify opportunities to streamline, standardize, and automate investment operations processes to improve efficiency, scalability, and data quality.
• Build and maintain relationships with custodians, investment managers, and service providers to support the efficient execution of operational processes, reporting requirements, and issue resolution.
• Develop, maintain, and enhance operational controls, policies, procedures, and documentation to support effective governance, regulatory compliance, and audit readiness.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree required; Masters degree or other advanced degree or equivalent work experience an asset
• Professional Designations (CPA, CFA) an asset
• At least 8 years of experience in investment management with strong understanding of investment operations and comprehensive knowledge of investment products
• Communication and collaboration: strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders effectively
• Advanced knowledge of financial and management reporting, including external financial reporting and disclosure requirements, taxes (corporate, personal and commodity), audit, financial analysis
• Understanding of investment management and associated risks, including asset allocation, performance measurement, and investment strategies across multiple asset classes (equities, fixed income, alternative investments, etc.)
• Data analysis: ability to perform detailed financial analysis, reconcile accounts, and prepare accurate reports
• Advanced Excel and technical skills: proficiency in Excel (e.g., pivot tables, macros), and familiarity with data analysis or database management tools (SQL, Python, or similar)
• Attention to detail: strong organizational skills with a keen eye for accuracy, particularly when working with large data sets and managing competing priorities

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
