Job summary

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to join our finance team in Pickering. Reporting to the Finance Controller, Major Nuclear Projects, you will lead budgetary analysis, monthly variance and forecast reporting, and support project client coordination.

The role requires preparing reporting for senior executives and provincial ministries, developing financial models, and producing business cases. Strong ERP and BI capabilities are essential for success.

Qualifications

• 4-year university degree in Business, Finance or Accounting and CPA designation.
• 8+ years of related experience in a consultative financial role.
• Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining financial and accounting policies, procedures, and control processes.
• Results-oriented with the ability to learn quickly and manage multiple projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Excellent leadership, judgement, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
• High proficiency with Word, Excel, and Power BI.
• Hands on experience using SAP, Asset Suite 9, and Anaplan.

Job Overview

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Financial Analyst.

Reporting to the Finance Controller, Major Nuclear Projects, this position is responsible for supporting a wide array of activities within the Pickering Refurb Controllership organization at OPG that includes the annual business planning process, monthly budget-to-actual and forecast reporting and project client support.

The successful candidate will be tasked with taking a lead role in budgetary analysis, financial reporting, forecasting, maintaining critical information in OPG’s financial systems and databases, financial modelling and preparation of reporting for senior level executives and provincial ministries and Boards. The Senior Financial Analyst will also undertake economic and financial analysis or studies to assist in the preparation and analysis of various business cases and scenarios.

Key Accountabilities

• Develops and recommends strategies, policies, procedures and guidelines through research, analysis and input from stakeholders in the area of general accounting practices.

Maintains a professional awareness in relation to current accounting practice, GAAP and general business environment, the utility industry to communicate impacts and implications throughout the business.

Conducts investigations into specialized accounting areas or needs and prepares procedures that balance all stakeholder needs.

Reviews line's accounting practices and provides a due diligence assessment as to the accuracy, consistency and appropriateness of analysis and conclusions being reached.

Provides management reports utilizing financial systems and other inputs and assists line managers in interpretation of financial and operational results.

Ensures the integrity of the decision support process through supporting the preparation and review of business case summaries.

Supports the development and implementation of on-going and new system needs and performs periodic reviews of financial systems and processes to identify opportunities for improved productivity.

Provides line managers with advice, guidance and support for business planning, budgeting, reporting, performance projections, resource forecasts, and internal control.

Qualifications

• 4-year university degree in Business, Finance or Accounting and CPA designation
• 8+ years of related experience in a similar type of consultative role providing effective financial guidance to line managers and providing financial reporting for large multi-year, multi-discipline projects/partnerships with multiple entities.
• Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining financial and accounting policies, procedures, and control processes.
• Results-oriented with the ability to learn quickly, work effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment, and manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all organizational levels.
• Excellent leadership, judgement, decision-making, critical-thinking, and creative problem-solving skills.
• High proficiency with information technology tools, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power BI, with an ability to use technology to efficiently collect, analyze, and share information.
• Hands on experience using large financial or integrated enterprise systems suchas SAP, Asset Suite 9, and Anaplan.
• Experience supporting or leading finance-related Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) modernization, implementation, transformation, or optimization initiatives is considered an asset.
