Job summary

The Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) is hiring a Hostel Manager to lead the Client Services hostel teams and ensure safe, efficient operations for clients traveling for medical transportation benefits in Sioux Lookout, Ontario.

You will oversee scheduling, staff development, and compliance with OH&S and service standards while fostering a welcoming, culturally respectful environment. The role requires flexibility for shift rotations and potential on-call hours.

Qualifications

  • First Nations ancestry preferred in alignment with OHRC guidelines.
  • Knowledge of First Nations culture and health issues in Sioux Lookout area.
  • Minimum 5 years of management experience leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Solid computer skills and proficiency with common software.

Responsibilities

  • Provide directions and manage teams of supervisors and frontline staff in Client Services.
  • Oversee hostel operations to ensure smooth service across departments.
  • Complete staffing reports to leadership on a regular basis.
  • Recruit supervisors and frontline staff in collaboration with HR and Directors.
  • Develop and ensure staff training and orientation completion.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and communicate updates.
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere and ensure excellent client service.
  • Schedule supervisors using HRIS and manage staff information changes.
  • Oversee performance management and progressive discipline within scope.
  • Respect First Nation culture and traditions in all activities.
  • Investigate incidents and address staff complaints with HR as required.
  • Ensure hostels meet OH&S standards and conduct drills for emergencies.
  • Occasional on-call hours may be required.
  • Procure supplies and process payments through Sage.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The Hostel Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the programs and services are provided for clients and escorts travelling to Sioux Lookout for medical transportation benefits. The Hostel Manager must be able to lead the hostel team leaders and frontline employees to work as a well-functioning team.

Accountability

The Hostel manager will report to the Associate Director of Client Services

Qualifications
  • Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment).
  • Knowledge of the First Nations culture and the principal issues affecting the health of First Nation communities in the Sioux Lookout area.
  • The ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects in the Sioux Lookout Zone is an asset.
  • Business Degree in Administration, Health Administration, Human Resources or Finance or equivalent experience acceptable to the employer.
  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Must be available for all shifts of the position on a rotational basis.
  • Financial and budgeting experience will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of SLFNHA Hostel services and understanding of the Non-Insured Health Benefits Program.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety and Employment Standards Act Ontario.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must have excellent computer skills and software experience.
  • Solid decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • The ability to perform the requirements of the position on a regular basis.
Roles & Responsibilities
  • Provide directions and manage teams of department supervisors and frontline staff within the Client Services department.
  • Oversee hostel operations to ensure the smooth running of all Client Service departments.
  • Complete staffing/departmental reports to both the Associate Director and Director of Client Services
  • Responsible for, in conjunction with the Human Resources and Director/Associate Director of CSD, all aspects of the recruitment of supervisors and frontline staff.
  • Development of and ensuring completion of departmental training and orientation of staff.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and discuss Client Services updates, changes, and directions.
  • Contribute to a welcoming atmosphere at the hostels and ensure all staff provide excellent Client (customer) Service.
  • Create and manage supervisor schedules in an HRIS system to assist supervisors with departmental schedules.
  • Complete staff information changes, time management sheets, and clock-in/ clock-out through the HRIS system.
  • Overall responsibility for the performance management progressive discipline for frontline staff within your scope, in collaboration with department supervisors, Director/Associate Director and Human resources.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding and respect for the cultural traditions, practices, and values of the First Nation of our communities.
  • Complete and investigate incident reports, follow up on staff complaints, and report issues to the Director, Associate Director, and Human Resources as required.
  • Ensure hostels operate safely and are aligned with occupational health and safety and ensure that regular drills are conducted to prepare staff for potential emergencies.
  • The position may, at times, be required for on-call hours.
  • Responsible for procurement of supplies and processing of payments through Sage.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
  • The Hostel Manager may be required to work outside regular hours, including evenings and weekends, to support the operational needs of the 24/7 hostels.
  • Some travel may be required for meetings, training, or other organizational responsibilities.
  • Frequent travel between SLFNHA hostel locations and other Client Services sites required.
