Job summary

BC Building Science Ltd. in Vancouver, BC is seeking an experienced Manager, Finance & Administration to lead day-to-day accounting and financial reporting.

This hands-on role reports to the VP, Finance & Corporate Services and drives month-end and year-end processes. You will oversee financial statements, management reporting, GL, AP/AR, payroll support, and audits, mentor the Accounting Assistant, strengthen controls, and coordinate with external auditors and advisors in a collaborative

Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree in Accounting/Finance or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with manager-level exposure preferred.
• CPA designation or progress toward CPA preferred.
• Strong month-end and year-end closing, financial statement prep, and GL accounting experience.
• Experience with Power Query, VBA/macros, Power Automate and Office Scripts is a plus.
• Experience with external auditors and audit working papers.
• Project-based accounting experience is an asset.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and collaborative leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead month-end and year-end close including journal entries and reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports; perform variance analysis.
• Oversee GL, AP/AR, banking, expense reporting, and reconciliations.
• Oversee project-based accounting, including cost tracking and revenue recognition.
• Coordinate with external auditors, accountants, and tax advisors for year-end activities.
• Assist with payroll and benefits administration.
• Mentor and develop the Accounting Assistant and support growth.

Job description

BC Building Science Ltd. is seeking an experienced Manager, Finance & Administration, to lead the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting functions of our organization. This is a full-time, in-office position based in Vancouver, BC, reporting to the VP, Finance & Corporate Services.

This is a hands-on management role combining technical accounting with team leadership. You will oversee month-end and year-end processes, prepare financial statements and management reporting, coordinate with external auditors and advisors, strengthen financial processes and controls, and mentor our Accounting Assistant.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Assistant Manager or Manager-level experience within an accounting firm or mid-sized organization.

What we expect from you:

• Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with Assistant Manager or Manager-level experience in an accounting firm or mid-sized company.
• CPA designation, or progress toward a CPA designation, is preferred.
• Strong experience with month-end and year-end closing, financial statement preparation, general ledger accounting, and reconciliations.
• Advanced Microsoft 365 integration and demonstrated reporting automation experience; working with Power Query, VBA/macros development, power automate and office scripts are strong assets.
• Experience preparing audit working papers and working directly with external auditors.
• Experience with project-based accounting is an asset.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A collaborative, approachable leadership style with a willingness to remain hands-on.

What you are going to do:

• Lead month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, variance analysis, and other financial reporting.
• Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking, expense reporting, and reconciliations.
• Oversee project-based accounting, including cost tracking, revenue recognition, work-in-progress, and billing.
• Prepare year-end working papers and coordinate directly with external auditors, accountants, and tax advisors.
• Assist with payroll and benefit administration.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop the Accounting Assistant, reviewing their work and supporting continued growth in their accounting responsibilities.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow reporting, and financial analysis.
• Maintain and improve accounting procedures, reporting processes, and internal financial controls.
• Oversee accounting and financial administration for related Canadian and U.S. entities, including financial reporting, reconciliations, tax and regulatory support, insurance, and coordination with external advisors.
• Partner with the VP, Finance & Corporate Services on financial analysis, reporting, and special projects.
