Job summary

Scotiabank Toronto is seeking a finance-focused professional to lead program budgets within Canadian Banking Marketing. You will manage expenses, ensure tight budget controls, and produce accurate forecasts while supporting governance and risk management.

Responsibilities include implementing efficient processes, training staff, and serving as the Anaplan subject matter expert to maintain data integrity and budget structure alignment. A strong detail orientation is essential for success.

Qualifications

  • University degree with a focus in Business or Accounting is an asset.
  • 3-5 years of experience in financial management and/or accounting operations.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and requirements.
  • Advanced Excel skills required for budget and variance analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and oversees financial and operations management for program budgets.
  • Develops and implements budgeting controls, expense processes and reporting.
  • Monitors budget lines, forecasts variances, and supports month/quarter closes.
  • Acts as subject matter expert for Anaplan, ensuring data accuracy and user support.
  • Provides operational support to senior management including risk, compliance & controls.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to ensure regulatory compliance and internal policy adherence.
  • Builds high-performance teams and develops talent through succession planning.

Leads and oversees financial and operations management for Canadian Banking Marketing’s program budgets ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed/delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.


Is this role right for you? In this role you will:


  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

  • Develops and implements financial management processes, including: ensuring effective budget controls are in place and all expenses are processed in alignment with the Bank’s accounting processes and policies; documenting expense management processes and work flows, ensuring that they are maintained and that unit level reporting is accurate; identifying, presenting, and initiating ongoing process improvements to create efficiencies; working with other departments to streamline processes; developing expense management forms and templates; communicating new procedures/policies to staff across the department.

  • Manages financial operations and administration, including: monitoring all budget line items ensuring that they are on budget/forecast; contributing to monthly/quarterly variance analysis and forecasting for Canadian Banking Finance; managing process for HST reporting with internal and external stakeholders (Accounting, Reconciliation & Regulatory, Provincial Auditors etc.); preparing accruals/deferred charges as required; and trouble‑shooting issues associated with paperless invoicing processes.

  • Acts as a subject matter expert for the department’s financial management tool – Anaplan and is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the expense data tool, including: ensuring that expense information is properly coded and entered into the system; reconciling monthly General Ledger reports from Smart Stream against Anaplan; managing the set‑up of new users, providing training for new Marketing team members; providing ongoing support and technical assistance to users; managing updates to reflect the budget structure; and working with external development/support team as required.

  • Provides operational support to Global Marketing’s senior management team including, but not limited to: operational risks and related risk management activities; Business Continuity Planning; Procurement; Audits; Enterprise Regulatory Compliance Management; Risk and Control Self-Assessment; NIRA; Records and Information Management; and Business Environment & Internal Control Assessments.

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day‑to‑day activities and decisions.

  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day‑to‑day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

  • Works directly with stakeholders (Marketing team) on an ongoing basis to complete job responsibilities mentioned above.

  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.
