Who We Are
At the Department of Health and Social Services (HSS), our mandate is to promote, protect, and enhance the well-being of Yukoners through a continuum of quality, accessible, and appropriate health and social services. The Community Health Programs (CHP) Branch within Health and Social Services delivers and funds a variety of community and public health services throughout the territory. The Environmental Health Services (EHS) unit, part of the Community Health Programs Branch, works to promote care of the environment in the interest of public health. In conjunction with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, our team works to protect the health and safety of the public across a wide variety of program areas including food safety, drinking water, sewage disposal, recreational facilities, rabies control, tobacco and vaping control and personal services.
This opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Community Health Programs, we are looking for a highly dynamic, agile, and strategic individual for this position, who has exceptional collaborative, communication, and negotiation skills. The Environmental Health Services Manager plays an integral role in the development and delivery of environmental public health policy, projects and services. The position is responsible for leading, managing and supervising the day-to-day operations of Environmental Health Services, and developing and applying legislation and regulations to support regulatory activities. This position develops and maintains positive working relationships with and provides expert advice to other YG departments, other levels of government and the private sector; and represents the Yukon on national and federal/ provincial/territorial committees and other forums.

Essential qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in environmental health, Public Health or other related Health Sciences discipline; preference will be given to those with a master’s or PhD in relevant discipline.
- Experience in leading and supervising a team.
- Experienced in fostering cross-functional and external collaborations to support organizational goals and enhance stakeholder engagement.”.
- Experience in leading, planning, and implementing programs.
- Experience in providing strategic advice and guidance to senior management.
- Experience in developing policy, guidelines, and programs for environmental public health or related fields.
- Experience in financial management would be considered an asset.
