Job description

City of Coquitlam is located at City Hall. The company is currently looking for applications for the role of Manager, Environmental Education & Enforcement. We are seeking a self-disciplined individual with exceptional interpersonal skills. The chosen applicant will be required to join and begin their duties as soon as possible. This position is offered as temporary full-time employment for a duration of 15–16 months.

  • The candidate must develop and implement environmental projects and education programs for both corporate and community use, supporting sustainability goals and targets focused on water conservation, protection of watercourses, waste reduction, urban wildlife management, and other environmental initiatives.
  • The candidate must establish environmental standards and requirements for development applications, as well as develop and implement environmental monitoring and protection programs, including water quality monitoring, and lead a team responsible for inspecting and enforcing stream and drainage system protection regulations.
  • The candidate must build strong partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders, including schools, community groups, and other levels of government like the Conservation Officer Service, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and Metro Vancouver.
Job Requirements
  • The candidate must hold a post-secondary degree in Environmental Sciences or a related field, or have an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • The candidate should possess a valid professional designation or certification in British Columbia in fields such as biology, environmental planning, engineering, or a related discipline (preferred).
  • The candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a related role, preferably within a municipal government environment.
  • The candidate must have strong experience in developing environmental education and behavioural change programs.
  • The candidate must have experience in environmental bylaw enforcement and enforcement strategy development.
  • The candidate must demonstrate strong knowledge of environmental planning principles, policy development, and relevant federal and provincial legislation.
  • The candidate must have experience in project management and budget management.
  • The candidate must have strong leadership and management capabilities.
  • The candidate must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, including collaboration, facilitation, conflict resolution, and relationship building.
  • The candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • The candidate must have strong analytical and decision-making skills with a focus on environmental outcomes.
