Aecon Civil is a recognized leader in civil infrastructure projects across Canada, the U.S., and an expanding international footprint. The Environmental Manager is responsible for ensuring construction projects comply with all applicable environmental legislation, regulations, procedures, and client requirements.

What You’ll Do Here:
  • Day‑to‑day implementation of the Environmental Management System, auditing and reporting its performance.
  • Integration in a project‑based role for large transformative infrastructure projects.
  • Manage all environmental issues associated with the project, including overseeing the environmental monitoring program.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with relevant environmental authorities and parties.
  • Ensure effective operation of environmental management plans and protection plans.
  • Provide direction, support, and leadership to the project team on all matters related to environmental regulations, permits, and requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain an effective environmental management system in conformance with ISO 14001.
  • Support the team in the preparation and submission of environmental permit applications.
  • Oversee environmental aspects of project design and coordinate with technical services to meet schedules.
  • Coordinate with environmental subcontractors for specialty input and direction.
  • Analyze and identify trends to aid in environmental protection and compliance.
  • Develop new and revised environmental practices, procedures, and training programs.
  • Review site needs to identify and implement corrective actions for compliance.
  • Compile quarterly and annual reports to update ongoing processes and address current issues.
  • Work with client representatives to resolve identified issues.
  • Implement an environmental audit program and prepare improvement plans and corrective actions based on findings.
  • Ensure compliance and implementation of all environment obligations for the project.
  • Direct annual environmental reporting activities for the design‑builder contracts.
  • Establish relationships with governmental authorities and stakeholders in cooperation with the client.
  • Lead internal environmental design reviews, developing mitigation and compensation proposals.
  • Liaise with client and governmental authorities as the single point of contact for environmental management.
  • Act as lead authorizing signatory before release of any new or amended plan, report, or document.
  • Other duties as required.
What You Bring to the Team:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or related disciplines.
  • 10+ years of experience on major infrastructure projects in a management/supervisory role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of provincial and federal environmental acts, permits, and regulations.
  • Specific knowledge and application of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
  • Experience with HSE and environmental reporting management software.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and submit environmental permit applications.
  • Skill in writing and producing environmental management plans, EPPs, procedures, manuals, SOPs, and related documentation.
  • Comfortable working individually and in a team setting.
  • Strong understanding of local and international environmental systems, standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent report and technical content writing skills.
  • Strong leadership, supervision, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Adaptability to new environments and circumstances.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Background checks required.
